Juaquin Iglesias

ALL JUAQUIN IGLESIAS wanted to do was goof off. It wasn’t going to happen.

“My mom, we’d go up to her mom’s and we’d always have to do certain chores,” Iglesias said. “And it’d be like, ‘Man, why we always gotta do so much? We’re kids.

Let’s go play outside.’ Now, today, I can see the difference. Every day I try to clean up my house and stu! like that.”

Iglesias, a senior wide receiver from Killeen, Texas, is coming o! one of the most productive seasons ever by an Oklahoma football player, 1,833 all-purpose yards — seventh- best in school history. He’s the single-season and career record holder for kicko! return average. But he often harkens back to his humble upbringing in a close family.

“Me, my brother, my sister, my mom and my dad, we were always together, and still are to this day,” he said. “We’re still pretty close.”

Iglesias said when he was in high school, he endured typical teen angst that could have become something else.

“I’ve had some mistakes in my past and you’ve just got to learn from them and keep going,” he said. “Just things in high school, playing around too much in the classroom, me and my friends fighting and stu! like that … It gets better as you grow and just get more mature.”
