OU: Know The Foe

Looking back: The Mocs went 2-9 in 2007, posting wins over Western Carolina (39-21) and Georgia Southern (45-38 in overtime) and finishing in seventh place in the Southern Conference. The only thing coach Rodney Allison had going for him was the play of safety Chris Camacho — he led the league with 135 tackles — and the running of backs Bryan Fitzgerald and Erroll Wynn, who combined for 1,574 yards on the ground.

About the offense: Fitzgerald is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery, leaving Wynn to carry the ball this year. The Mocs return both their wide receivers in Blue Cooper and Clint Woods, but will be breaking in a new quarterback. Juco transfer Jare Gault is the new QB, and he will work behind an inexperienced line.

About the defense: UTC returns but three starters — defensive end Neil Brown, middle linebacker Aaron Adams and strongside linebacker Joseph Thornton, the Mocs' top returning tackler. Allison has switched from a 3-4 alignment to a 4-3 to help fortify last year's soft run defense. A rebuilt secondary would seem the weak link heading into the season.

About special teams: Kicker Craig Camay had bounced back from last year's hip injury when preseason camp began, but he then injured his groin. Jeff Lloyd appears to be the choice to replace punter Jonathan Wright.
