NORMAN — Police confirmed Tuesday that Oklahoma athletes Frank Alexander and Ray Willis were stabbed during an altercation at a Norman nightclub early Sunday morning.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests had been made and no charges had been filed, police said.

Alexander and Willis underwent minor surgery after the stabbings, according to a police press release Sunday.

A Norman Regional Hospital spokesman said Sunday night that Alexander, an 18-year-old freshman defensive end, had been treated and released from the facility.

It is unclear if Willis, 18, a freshman basketball guard, remains hospitalized.

Police were called to Sooner Knights, a club in southwest Norman, at 2:32 a.m. Sunday after calls reported a fight involving guns, knives and tire irons.

According to information released Tuesday by the Norman Police Department, the altercation reportedly occurred when a number of people tried unsuccessfully to crash a private party at the club and then attacked invited guests.

OU released a statement Monday in which athletic director Joe Castiglione said "indications are that those who were injured were victims of assault."

In addition to the stabbings, 19-year-old Rachel Taylor reportedly was struck by a vehicle during the incident.

All OU officials, including football coach Bob Stoops, are withholding further comment pending an ongoing police investigation.

Alexander, who was the second defensive end off OU's bench during their season-opening victory over Chattanooga on Saturday, is not listed on the Sooners' depth chart for this weekend's game against Cincinnati.

At a nightclub, a party going on. more than likely drinking going on. just because they play football does not make them a man. or a adult. and just because the party is private. does not mean it is ok to drink alchol under age. know i do not know for sure. but my guess is this was alchol related. --- they need to be learning some self control and self discipline. that is what it takes to be a real man.

Wow, who would have thought being in a night club in the wee hours of the morning might lead to trouble? Maybe these guys ought to stick to what they are supposed to be doing - getting a degree and playing football.

Maybe OU should hire other students to follow the athletes around to keep an eye on them to make sure they aren't getting into trouble. They could be called "Stoops' Snoops".

If I never heard another peep out of Norman regarding their tacky "athletes"...it would be way too soon. ...And, I live in Norman.
