Stoops today: Still downplays OU's No. 1 rank

NORMAN — Bob Stoops continued to sidestep the significance of Oklahoma’s first No. 1 ranking in five years Monday during his Big 12 teleconference appearance.
Asked what stock he put in the ranking, the OU coach replied: “None. You’ve got to win this week. All our stock is in trying to get better, trying to be as good as we can when we play Saturday."
The Sooners, who top the Associated Press, USA Today Coaches and Harris Interactive polls, play their Big 12 opener at 2-2 Baylor this weekend. And if some believe the ranking provides the Bears a bigger bullseye to shoot for, Stoops reminded: “We generally have a pretty good-sized one regardless. We’re fairly used to that.”
This is the 96th week OU has been ranked No. 1 by the AP, a national record the Sooners had shared with Notre Dame prior to the latest poll.
“I don’t know that that gives us any special advantage,” Stoops said. “Each year is different. You’ve got to go earn it each time. Just because we’ve done it before... That’s a long time ago. All that matters is
what you’re able to do now.”

What stock does OU coach put in Sooners' No. 1 ranking: "None. You've got to win this week."
That is so true. The only meaningful poll is the one at the end of the regular season when they pick the BCS teams. A lot of games are on the schedule between then and now.

Spoken like a true person from Big Ten Country!!
Note: Bob is from Buckeye Country. Talk about mania!! Every weekend it was a battle against the elements, football, and beer. Week was battle against the elements, mills, elements, traffics, mills, refinery, whatever.
Thank God for the weekends!!
