State teams putting up huge stats
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa are 4-0. It is the first time since 1945 each of the state's major-college teams have finished September undefeated and untied. They have done it with offense.
All three schools rank at among the nation's best in multiple NCAA categories. In the ultimate category — scoring — the state has three of the top five teams. And Oklahoma is home to three of the most efficient passers in the country. Here's a look at some of the numbers and a breakdown of each team:
Scoring offense
1. Tulsa 54.8
2. Missouri 53.8
3. OSU 51.8
4. Penn State 49.8
5. Oklahoma 49.8
Oklahoma
Give TCU credit for its 35-10 loss Saturday: The Horned Frogs are the only foe to keep OU under 50 points this season. The Sooners rank fifth nationally in scoring offense, and they are doing a lot of it in a hurry. OU has outscored opponents 133-16 in the first half. Its single-season scoring average record is 46.6, set in 1956.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys have scored at least 50 points in their past three games — the first time in school history that has happened. OSU averages 51.8 points per game and ranks third nationally in scoring. The Cowboys' greatest scoring season was in 1988, when Barry Sanders helped the team produce 584 points in 13 games.
Tulsa
The Hurricane
leads the country and has scored at least 50 points in three straight games for the first time since 1920. Not since 1919 has the school produced four straight 50-point games. In that season, TU had five in a row, including a 63-7 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville. The school record in a season of at least 10 games is 56.6, set in 1916.
Passing offense
1. Texas Tech 426.3
2. Missouri 404.3
3. Houston 400.0
4. Tulsa 390.5
5. Oklahoma 357.0
Oklahoma
The Sooners average 357 yards per game and rank fifth nationally. Quarterback Sam Bradford ranks sixth nationally, with 323.3 yards per game. He set a career high with 411 passing yards in a win Saturday over TCU. Bradford ranks third in the country in passing efficiency, a formula that measures several categories.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are not among the nation's passing yardage leaders, but quarterback Zac Robinson ranks fifth in the country in passing efficiency, a formula that measures several passing categories. Robinson has 849 passing yards and seven touchdowns.
Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane ranks fourth in passing yards, at 390.5 per game.
First-year starter David Johnson
ranks third in the country at 376.3 yards per game and leads the country in passing efficiency. Johnson has thrown for 1,505 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has four interceptions in 118 attempts.
Total offense
1. Tulsa 600.8
2. Missouri 595.5
3. Texas Tech 572.8
4. OSU 562.5
5. Houston 545.2
6. Oregon 531.6
7. Oklahoma 526.5
Oklahoma
The Sooners are seventh in the country, averaging 526.5 yards per game. OU has twice approached the 600-yard mark this season — gaining 591 against Washington and 592 against Cincinnati. Two-thirds of the Sooners' offense has come through the air. OU has 2,106 total yards, and 1,428 are passing.
Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are fourth nationally, at 562.5 yards per game, and are the nation's No. 1 rushing team (340.3 yards per game). OSU's Kendall Hunter ranks third nationally, at 154.5 yards per game. The Cowboys have 2,250 total yards, and 1,361 (60 percent) have come on the ground. The Cowboys have twice exceeded 600 yards.
Tulsa
One team in the country averages at least 600 yards per game — the Golden Hurricane. The number is staggeringly high. Consider: Only nine of the 119 major college teams average at least 500 yards. And last year, when TU led the country in total offense, the Hurricane averaged 544 yards per game.
Fast facts
In addition to having players who rank among the national leaders in several categories, the state teams' offenses feature a wealth of productive performers.
Oklahoma
Quarterback Sam Bradford is among the nation's top passers, but OU has no receivers who are in the top 10 of the national rankings. Manuel Johnson is 22nd in receiving yards per game, at 94.0. But the Sooners have depth. Four players have at least 200 receiving yards.
Oklahoma State
OSU has players all over the top 10 lists of national offense rankings.
Kendall Hunter
is third in rushing and fourth in scoring. Dez Bryant is fifth in receiving yards and ninth in scoring. Zac Robinson is fifth in pass efficiency.
Tulsa
Quarterback David Johnson has been prolific passing, but Brennan Marion is the only TU player in the top 10 nationally in receiving yards per game. He is ninth at 105.5 yards per game. The Golden Hurricane has four players with at least 200 receiving yards.

righton can you really be this dumb?
You schedule games years in advance. Not the schools fault is a school is down or if a school backs out and you have to find a team to play.
Washington but they will win some games and have a chance to play in a bowl. Cinn will be a bowl team and might win the Big East. TCU is ranked and is a very good team.
righton never played football my bet is he was in the band. It is very difficult to win all the games you have played. Proof is it has not happened since 1945. That is 63 years. Any time something happens that has not happened in 63 years it is news.

ok sooner: "It is very difficult to win all the games you have played. Proof is it has not happened since 1945."
Huh? Get a clue. How quickly you forgot Boise State in 2006, let alone the 82 other teams that have gone undefeated since 1945.

Dave in Houston,
It seems you may be the one in need of a clue, or at least some short term memory. Read the first two sentences of the article again, sport.

Over 600yrds per game avg? That's staggering!
Can anybody Stop Anybody?
I remember when TU had many 0-4 Septembers. Whatever the strength of schedule, not 2 long ago, past TU teams would not hav Won more than one game playn' this yrs schedule.
The new Chapman is a Fun/Loud place to watch a game!

OK SOONER, yes RIGHTON is the idiot. TU dumped Texas Tech off their schedule last year to add UCA. Better take that sheepskin you got online and line the birdcage with it. Turn around and get back to the drive-though window!

Cupcakes? Washington State, Houston, Troy, Washington, Cincinatti, TCU, UAB and New Mexico aren't typically doormat teams in their conferences. The state teams all fielded decent, not great, but decent nonconference schedules. Some may be a little more down than normal, but they are still respectable programs.

If things were fair, they would have listed the top running offenses along with the top passing offenses instead of just sticking the fact OSU has the top rushing offense in the middle of some sentence. Obviously, I'm a little biased but I think if either TU or OU had one of the top rushing offenses they would want it highlighted as well.
I know that only one state school is excelling in the running game at this moment and that is the main factor in not including it in this article, but like I said, I'm just trying to be fair. The article is about offensive domination in the state and the running game is half of the offense. ANY team, regardless of the state school, deserves that recognition.

Tulsa: Has NOT played anyone worthwhile yet. Having said that, they have beaten everyone they've played so far, and that's all you can do, right?
OSU: Has NOT played anyone worthwhile yet. They also have beaten everyone they've played, and, yes, that's all you can do.
OU: Has played ONE good team, TCU, who led the nation in defense when the Sooners beat them. They too have beaten everyone on their schedule.
Al Davis said it best (while he was sane): Just win, baby!

Thanks but, I did. If you pay attention to what 'ok sooner' stated, my comment was relavent. Better luck next time, sport.

ALPHA DAWG, TU dropped the Texas Tech game to play Arkansas, not Central Arkansas. Of course, as bad as Arkansas is this year, UCA may end up having given them a better game than Arkansas will!
