OU quarterback Sam Bradford looks to pass during the first quarter against TCU on Sept. 27 in Norman. OU fans can find out if Bradford wins this week's AT&T All-America Player of the Week during halftime of Thursday night's Pittsburgh-South Florida broadcast on ESPN. MICHAEL WYKE/Tulsa World

McCoy gets his spot: Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was formally named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Wednesday. McCoy's spot on the team was originally announced in August. It marks the third straight year an OU player has been named to the prestigious squad. Jacob Gutierrez was on the team in 2006 and Nic Harris received it in 2007.

"We're proud of the players who have represented us on the Good Works Team, and certainly Gerald is extremely deserving," said OU coach Bob Stoops. "The fact that he was voted a captain as a sophomore speaks to the respect Gerald has earned in our program. Others have noticed Gerald's selfless actions and integrity, and we are pleased that he also is receiving that recognition on the national level."

Bradford nominated again: During Thursday's ESPN prime time telecast between Pittsburgh and South Florida, college football fans will learn if OU quarterback Sam Bradford wins this week's AT&T All-America Player of the Week.

Bradford was one of four nominees nationwide after throwing for four touchdowns and a career-high 411 yards in a 35-10 win over TCU. It was Bradford's second nomination this season.

Remember '04: Houston was clearly outmanned the last time OU faced an Art Briles-coached team. The Sooners, No. 2 all year, pasted the Cougars 62-13 in the second game of the 2004 season. But Briles helped Kevin Kolb become an NFL quarterback and set many records, and the former Texas Tech assistant and high school skipper at Stephenville,
Texas (where he won four state titles and developed six Division I QBs) had a good scheme.

Still does, Stoops said. "You'll see it again this week," Stoops said. "They spread the ball in all kinds of formations, use personnel in all different ways. It's very similar if not identical to what they were doing (at Houston)."

Body double: OU fans have read all week about the Bears' dynamic quarterback, Robert Griffin, a 6-foot-3, 203-pound, run-pass threat and Big 12 spring medalist in the hurdles. So who's portraying Griffin in practice this week?

None other than walk-on quarterback John Nimmo, a 6-2, 207-pound sophomore from Ponca City. Nimmo has never played at OU but is technically fourth-string behind Sam Bradford, Joey Halzle and Landry Jones.

Line item: Bradford had been sacked just once going into TCU but went down three times against the Horned Frogs. But while the offensive line has been blamed for many of OU's offensive problems Saturday night, one of those sacks goes on running back Chris Brown, whose first-quarter blitz pickup was a whiff. Bradford didn't place blame on the other two.

"A couple of those hits weren't on the offensive line. A couple were on me, knowing I was probably squeezing the ball a little too long, just trying to find an open receiver or just throwing it away," Bradford said. "I thought our offensive line actually played pretty well."
