Audio: Listen to a seven-minute teleconference Monday with OU coach Bob Stoops, who talks about this week’s game against Texas.

NORMAN — The talent is in place for Saturday’s Oklahoma-Texas showdown. Sooner coach Bob Stoops says this year’s star power rivals that of the Adrian Peterson-Vince Young passage in 2004-06.

The coaches are certainly proven, as Stoops and Mack Brown prepare to face off for the 10th consecutive October.

Where do emotions factor in?

“I think people always have a misconception that just because you’re excited, you do well. You’ve got to manage it,” Stoops said Monday during his weekly Big 12 teleconference appearance. “Everybody’s different. On either side of the ball, every young guy is different on how they handle it. In the end, they’ve got to manage the excitement of it all in the right way.

“Some perform better the more excited they are. Some guys, not so well. They need to cool down and think.”
Will it be harder to do so this week?

“Sure,” Stoops answered. “These kinds of games do rev you up. But again, we don’t count on that winning. We count on what we do and how we play to win.”
