OU: 3 Storylines

A look at three things to watch in today's Kansas-Oklahoma contest.

Just run, baby

While it appears KU may be susceptible to the pass (South Florida, Sam Houston and Iowa State combined for 313 yards per game in a three-week stretch), the Sooners say they have refocused their offense toward running the ball. OU has averaged less than 3 yards per carry in its past three games, and it finally hurt in a loss to Texas.

Reesing pieces

Kansas QB Todd Reesing has an escapability and knack for making big plays. Reesing is third in the conference in total offense (346.8 yards per game), and has developed an uncanny rapport with backup QB Kerry Meier, who also plays WR and leads the Big 12 with 53 catches (second at 101.8 receiving yards per game).

Man in the middle

Austin Box likely will start at middle linebacker. His speed and agility make him a better fit against contemporary (re: spread) offenses than a beefier, more traditional middle man. And don't forget, Box was an All-American safety in high school, so he should be OK in coverage. The Sooners should have played more nickel against Texas, anyway, so they may go that route.
