OU: Know The Foe

Looking back: Colorado benched starting quarterback Cody Hawkins, didn't score a point in the second half, and still defeated Kansas State 14-13. The Wildcats dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12 Conference and had their offense to blame — their season-low 349 yards spoiled a sturdy effort by their beleaguered defense.

About the offense: K-State quarterback Josh Freeman has been playing well. Already his school's all-time passing leader, Freeman ran for 95 yards and four touchdowns in a victory at Texas A&M two weeks ago. He is on pace to run and pass for 20 touchdowns.

About the defense: Before holding down Colorado, the Wildcats had allowed all four previous opponents to gain over 500 yards. Texas Tech rang up 626. A&M, with statistically the worst offense in the Big 12, totaled 544. So much for coach Ron Prince's plan to fortify his two-deep with junior college players.

About special teams: This could spell trouble for OU Saturday. K-State has returned four blocked punts for touchdowns, and has blocked an NCAA-leading seven kicks overall. The Wildcats are fourth in the nation in kickoff coverage, and kicker Brooks Rossman hit a 53-yard field goal at Colorado.
