Stoops favors playoff: The biggest revelation at Tuesday's Bob Stoops press conference was the Oklahoma coach now favors a college football playoff.

"Just with the differences in nonconference schedules, whether you have some difficult games and some people don't," Stoops explained.

"And then the strengths of different conferences. Some conferences have no championship game, others do. So anymore, I've come full circle. I'm with you guys (the media). I'm for it."

This year, the key factor in Stoops' re-decision is the strength of the Big 12, specifically the Big 12 South. A conference may send a maximum of two teams into BCS bowl games. That wouldn't seem fair to a Big 12 South with four of the top nine BCS teams currently.

Meanwhile, the BCS mandates the ACC and Big East both send teams.

The highest-ranked ACC team in the BCS is North Carolina at No. 19. The highest-ranked Big East team is West Virginia at No. 25.

Clean sweep: The Sooners have buried their last three opponents under an avalanche of big plays, scoring 45, 58 and 62 points in the process. Most pleasing to offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson?

"We haven't had a lot of negative plays or turnovers and sacks," he said. "As long as you keep those to a minimum, no matter what you're doing, you have a chance to be good."

OU hasn't allowed a sack of quarterback Sam Bradford since the fourth quarter of its 45-35 loss to Texas on Oct. 11. It is the Sooners' first three-game sack-free run since the last three games of the 2005 season.

What's more, OU has given up just eight sacks on the season, the second-lowest total in the Big 12 (Texas Tech has allowed five), and the ninth-lowest in the nation.

No place like home: Kyle Field, site of Saturday's OU-Texas A&M game, hasn't been a friendly place to the Sooners under Stoops. He is 3-1 there, but the four games have been decided by a total of 16 points.

This year, with the 4-5 Aggies struggling to find their way under first-year coach Mike Sherman, their best hope might be their home field.

"They've got an excellent stadium, an excellent tradition with the cadets," Stoops said. "I think that's what they call them."

No OU player knows the danger of Kyle Field better than Alan Davis, the defensive end who should get playing time in the absence of Auston English.

"My younger brother goes to A&M. I always tell him it is like a cult out there," Davis said. "They brainwash him. He comes home all the time with some new Aggie tradition.

"But they have a great tradition out there, and I've realized that through my little brother. It's a great atmosphere to play in, and I hope the young guys traveling with us really enjoy it."
