Bradford a semifinalist: Quarterback Sam Bradford on Wednesday was named one of 15 semifinalists for the 72nd Maxwell Award, which goes to college football's top player.

Bradford, a sophomore captain from Oklahoma City, has 70 career touchdown passes, including a nation-leading 34 this season. Bradford ranks second nationally in yards per completion (15.28), third in pass efficiency (189.0) and 11th in completion percentage (68.01). He's also one of just three quarterbacks with 280 pass attempts to throw less than seven interceptions.

The Maxwell winner will be announced during ESPNU's College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11. Past Maxwell winners from OU are Tommy McDonald (1956) and Jason White (2004).

McCoy a semifinalist: Sophomore defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is one of 15 semifinalists for the 14th Chuck Bednarik Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive player.

McCoy, a sophomore captain from Oklahoma City, has been the Sooners' most explosive and consistent lineman this season and leads the team with six quarterback sacks. His sacks total ranks sixth in the Big 12 Conference, first among interior linemen. McCoy has 18 tackles this season, including nine for loss.

The Bednarik winner will be announced during ESPNU's College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11. Teddy Lehman in 2003 is the Sooners' only previous Bednarik Award winner.

Stoops a semifinalist: OU coach Bob Stoops is one of 15 semifinalists for the 20th George Munger Award, given
each year to the top coach in college football.

Stoops guided the Sooners to back-to-back Big 12 championships in 2006 and 2007 despite a first-year starter at quarterback each season. This year, with Bradford back, the offense has ranked among national leaders. OU is 8-1 ahead of Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game at Texas A&M. The Munger Award winner will be announced in December.

Major upset?: First year Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman has spoken about the possibility of his young team pulling off something special this season. For a while, it felt like that had happened last week. But with No. 6-ranked OU coming to Kyle Field this week, Sherman may have his sights set on something greater.

"We beat Colorado for our second win in a row and our fourth win of the season, and you would have thought we'd won a national championship in the locker room," Sherman said. "Everyone was very excited, coaches and players alike, and really enjoying the moment... which is so important, because we really haven't had the opportunity to do that very often.

"We have a chance this week to play a very, very good opponent that is a top-five team and one of the best ones I've seen on tape this year. This would be a very special moment if we could beat this team. Certainly it's a formidable task, but these things do happen."
