Clemson rumors target OU staff
Venables reportedly talks to Tiger AD; Wilson denies he had meeting about job.
FUTURE TIGER?
Brent Venables:
Reports claim he interviewed for Clemson job.

Venables reportedly talks to Tiger AD; Wilson denies he had meeting about job.
NORMAN — Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Tuesday night that reports of his meeting with University of Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips about the Clemson head coaching vacancy were not true.
That's because Phillips was in Oklahoma City, reportedly to meet with OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
Rivals.com
network Web sites that cover both OU and Clemson reportedly confirmed that Venables met Tuesday night with Phillips. The Web site
SoonerScoop.com
published a photograph of Phillips walking on the tarmac at Wiley Post Airport after landing in an aircraft with the Clemson paw logo on the tail. Clemson is searching for a coach to replace Tommy Bowden, who was fired last month.
Last season, when Bowden reportedly was a candidate at Arkansas, it was reported that Venables was high on Phillips' list of possible replacements. Venables also confirmed he had been a candidate at Arkansas before the Razorbacks hired Bobby Petrino.
Venables did not meet with the media as usual Tuesday night, and did not answer text messages to his cell phone. Venables and his wife on Friday welcomed a new baby, and OU spokesman Kenny Mossman said Venables "went home" after leaving practice.
Wilson said, "Everybody keeps throwing Brent's name out from time to time, but we don't ever talk about it up top (in
the offices).
"I've not talked to (anyone). As God is my witness, I have not heard from a person. And I don't have an agent, so ain't nobody contacted my people, because 'my people' is me. I'm just doing my gig and doing it hard"
Wilson said he had declined offers to interview for two jobs previously (Iowa State in 2006 and Southern Mississippi last year) and said he was not overly eager to leave Norman.
"I'd like to say there was some truth (to Tuesday's rumors). I'd love to say there was some truth," Wilson said. "But I also say, 'We're trying to beat (Texas) Tech,' and that is the God's honest truth."

I'm suprised no OU fans have come on here saying they hope Clemson take Venables away, heh heh.

With the OU defense playing as bad as it has this year, maybe they could use a change at defensive coordinator.I have trouble understanding why anyone would want to leave a successful program they helped to establish. It could be the money but I would bet that the Venables aren't hurting.

i'd rather wilson lift................he seems content to play to conservative in the second half....that is why we lost the texas game...........i love the no huddle offense but he seems to stop it after we score a few touchdowns. we score more often with the quick no huddle offense.........why go anywhere else. of course....of late his calls are 1st down try running up the middle and it usually doesn't work so then we ar 2nd and long. it is like he wants to lose.................so wilson please go anywhere
venable------can also go.......we need NEW blood in our defense..........hasn't been the same since mike stoops lift
