Offensive explosion: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said this week he was extremely pleased with how Kevin Wilson's new fast-paced, no-huddle offense had operated all season.

The Sooners are on pace to set school records for plays, yards and points.

"Being very sharp in how we take advantage of our personnel, his schemes we're putting out there," Stoops said. "I call it wearing out pads. Sometimes you run a play that has no chance, just by the numbers or the way they line up. You're just running into a wall, you're wearing out pads. It's just not a smart play. Rarely are we in those situations where we don't have an advantage or we feel our opportunity is good here."

Red numbers: The Sooners still lead the nation in red zone efficiency. They've scored 53-of-56 times inside the 20. That includes 50 touchdowns. The only failures were two missed field goals and an interception in the end zone.

"Our offensive guys have really come up with good ways to attack coverages or run the football and execute," Stoops said. "The guys are executing it. We do emphasize it a lot. We work it a lot with each other, good on good offense versus defense, trying to make each other better at it."

Job search: Wilson has had a terrific season by anyone's standards, so it's likely he'll be targeted by schools seeking a head coach.

With Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips in Oklahoma City on Tuesday to reportedly interview Brent Venables, it was naturally assumed Phillips would want to talk to Wilson.

He didn't — this time — and that was OK with Wilson.

"I think five, eight, 10 years ago I used to stress out," Wilson said. "Now I'm having fun, working hard. Shoot, that's kind of where I am. And I think most of our guys kind of feel that way. There's not a lot of rhetoric in our office on that."

State of the stats: Think OU's game with Texas Tech might be fun?

The Sooners rank No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense (345.6 yards per game), while Tech is No. 2 (351.4).

Tech is No. 1 in total offense (566.3), while OU is No. 2 (549.8).

Tech is first in passing offense (433.7), OU is second (355.5).

OU is No. 1 in scoring offense (51.4 points per game); Tech is No. 2 in scoring defense (22.2).

Remember when the Sooners ran for 48 yards against Texas? They fell to fifth in the conference at 157.2 yards per game. Now, after rushing outputs of 206, 273, 193 and 328 yards, they're second at 194.3. Tech, by the way, ranks second in run defense (107.4).

Stats are great, but if OU doesn't put a trophy of some sort in the Switzer Center this year, it won't matter much.
