OU: Know The Foe

Looking back: Texas Tech, like OU, had Saturday off. The week before, the Red Raiders shook off a fumble on their opening drive, resulting in a quick 7-0 deficit, and blasted Oklahoma State 56-20. Tech is now 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the Big 12 Conference, and riding a school-record 12-game winning streak, the longest in college football.

About the offense: Quarterback Graham Harrell is now the Heisman Trophy frontrunner after bombarding OSU for 456 yards, on 40-of-50 completions and six touchdowns. No line does a better job of pass protection than Tech's, and no quarterback has a more dangerous target than Red Raider wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

About the defense: The statistics have never been pretty under coach Mike Leach, and Tech still gives up a lot of yards. What's encouraging, though, is the Raiders held OSU quarterback Zac Robinson to 182 passing yards, and didn't allow wideout Dez Bryant to become a factor until the game had already been decided.

About special teams: Like the Sooners, Tech has placekicking issues. Donnie Carona was so bad that Leach suited up Matt Williams after watching the Tech student during an in-game promotion. Leach hasn't committed to one or the other. The Raiders, 17th nationally in kickoff returns, will want to exploit OU's lousy kick coverage.

Biggest difference in what Tech did to OSU and what will happen Saturday? OU does not have one big threat go to receiver like Bryant (who is great), instead we have 5+ guys who can all make amazing plays. You can shut down one great player, but you can not shut down all 5+ at once.
