Big 12 South race

A look at the leaders in the Big 12 South race, and how each can win the title and advance to the Dec. 6 championship game against Missouri in Kansas City, Mo.

1. Texas Tech (6-1): The Red Raiders will be rooting mightily for Oklahoma State in the Bedlam game Saturday. If OSU beats OU, Texas Tech can clinch the South title by winning a home game Saturday against Baylor.

How this scenario works: Texas Tech would finish with a 7-1 record and at worst would be tied with Texas for the South title. Tech would win that tiebreaker by virtue of its head-to-head win over the Longhorns.

2. Oklahoma (6-1): The Sooners must beat Oklahoma State on Saturday in the Bedlam game. If OU wins, the Sooners would earn a berth in the Big 12 title game if either of the following happened:

Texas loses a home game to Texas A&M on Thursday.

Texas Tech and Texas both win their games this week, but OU finishes highest in the BCS standings released Nov. 30.

Two bad scenarios for OU: The Sooners could beat OSU and still miss the Big 12 title game if either of the following happened:

Texas beats Texas A&M and Baylor shocks Texas Tech in Lubbock. In that scenario, OU would finish in a tie with Texas at 7-1. Texas would win the tiebreaker based on head-to-head win over OU.

OU finishes in a three-way tie with Texas Tech and Texas at 7-1, but the Sooners lose the tiebreaker in the BCS standings.

3. Texas (6-1): The Longhorns must win a home game against Texas A&M. If Texas wins, the Longhorns would earn a berth in the Big 12 title game if either of the following happened:

Texas Tech loses a home game against Baylor on Saturday.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma both win their final games this week, but Texas finishes highest in the BCS standings released Nov. 30.
