Bradford takes World straw poll
Sampling of 55 voters gives edge to OU quarterback.

Official voting for the Heisman Trophy ended Wednesday afternoon. The announcement of the winner doesn't come until Saturday night.

The early exit poll suggests this year's race is too close to call.

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford and fellow quarterbacks Colt McCoy of Texas and Tim Tebow of Florida are in a tight race to win college football's most coveted award.

Bradford emerged as the frontrunner in the Tulsa World's straw poll of 55 Heisman voters across the United States. The 55-member panel included six writers from the Tulsa World who cover college football. The participants' names were kept anonymous.

Using the same point system as the Heisman Trophy (three points for a first-place vote, two for a second-place vote, and one for a third-place vote), Bradford received 22 first-place votes and finished with 120 points. The OU quarterback was named on 52 of the 55 ballots.

McCoy was second with 100 points and Tebow was a close third with 98 points. McCoy received fewer first-place votes (14) than Tebow (19), but the Texas quarterback was named on more ballots (53) than the reigning Heisman winner (50).

Other Heisman polls released this week have been split on a winner but almost all project a close finish. The Orlando Sentinels' poll of 10 voters has Bradford winning and Tebow in second. The Rocky Mountain News' poll, which also uses 10 panelists, gave the nod to McCoy with 42 points to 41 for Bradford. Bradford topped McCoy by two points in espn.com's poll of 15 voters.

Stiffarmtrophy.com, which used the ballots of more than 140 voters in its latest projection Wednesday afternoon, called the race "still too close to call" but gave Bradford a slight edge over Tebow in its forecast despite the Florida quarterback having garnered more first-place votes.

Sorry Granny but we all did. I don't think too many of us have a vote on the Heisman.

Agreed Arbythree! How can a local writer not support the athletes in his/her own state!! May be beyond educating...

Still waiting Matt. Hey Jason! Get Matt to tell us who at the TW thinks McCoy had a better season than Bradford.

Other than the Picker, aka, Jay, who would do such a thing?

If Bradford were to lose this Heisman by one vote....and it could happen, cdreit for his loss could be handed to the TW.

Thinking this article was really inappropriate to publish.
