Jenks' Lynn commits to Oklahoma

JENKS — Jenks senior cornerback Gabe Lynn, ranked as the state's No. 1 college football prospect by two major recruiting services, committed on Thursday to the University of Oklahoma.
Lynn made the announcement, reported first on
tulsaworld.com
, at Jenks High School's Sharp Center. He chose the Sooners over Oklahoma State and North Carolina.
"It was a hard decision, but in the end, OU was the best place for me. OU has a winning tradition like I'm used to at Jenks," said Lynn, who helped the Trojans win two Class 6A state titles and finish as this year's runner-up. "I'll be able to stay close to home and watch my little brother (fifth-grader Tyrone Lynn) play."
Verbal commitments are non-binding. National signing day is Feb. 4.
Lynn could be playing next year in the same game as his older brother, Phillip Dillard, who is a starting linebacker with Nebraska, although they likely won't be on the field at the same time.
"I'm glad they both play defense," said Lynn's father, Tyrone.
Lynn's mother, Ronda Lynn, said that OU "was the best fit for him."
Gabe Lynn had been leaning to the Sooners for a few weeks but didn't make his decision until Wednesday night. A visit to watch the Sooners host Nebraska on Nov. 1 helped influence the decision.
"They've got a gameday atmosphere like nowhere else," Lynn said.
Lynn, who is 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, is ranked by
Rivals.com
and
Scout.com
as the state's top prospect.
Scout.com
ranks Lynn as the nation's top cornerback prospect.
Rivals.com
ranks Lynn as the nation's fifth-best cornerback and No. 39 overall among recruits.
After having six interceptions last year, Lynn did not pick off a pass this season, but that is not indicative of how well he played, according to Jenks coach Allan Trimble. Opponents rarely threw in Lynn's direction.
"A quiet year for a cornerback can be a great year for a cornerback," Trimble said. "I can't say enough good things about him. He's a very impressive young man. He didn't let any of it (recruiting) affect how he played. I give a lot of credit for that to him and his family, who had been through it before with Phillip. Gabe really grew as a leader this year.
"I'm excited for Gabe. OU will continue to help him reach his full potential."
In October, Lynn listed OU, OSU, Arkansas, Nebraska and Southern Cal as his five finalists. North Carolina entered into contention recently due to the efforts of associate head coach/recruiting coordinator John Blake, a former OU head coach.
Lynn wore a cast on his left hand Thursday. He played in the state championship game on Dec. 5 despite breaking his finger in practice earlier that week. Lynn plans to have the cast removed just before he travels to San Antonio to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, scheduled for Jan. 3.

That's great for OU. Keeping our guys in the state. I get tired of hearing the Texas homers talk about OU having only Texas players. Of course a lot of the top guys on the team this season are from states other than Texas.

Congratulations Gabe! OU offers everything a student athlete could ever want or need, including a broad choice of curriculum with excellent professors. Needless to say, the football program is always in the hunt for the National Title, and your talents will be most welcome.
Study hard, play hard, and welcome to the Big Red Family! You made the right choice.

Another fine addition to the OU squad. I watched this young man play and he could be a real threat in a number of positions.
Congratulations to OU and Gabe!!!

Hey newpounddogintulsa, your lack of writing skills bely your inferior education at zero state u.
#1 - I know plenty of Stoolwater U grads that are Sooner fans
#2 - Who says you have to go to school somewhere to be a fan? I'm a big St Louis Cardinals fan but I didn't go to school there.
#3 - Who the heck wants to wear a orange shirt that makes you look like an inmate.
#4 - Even with T Boones ill-gotten gains, you'll always be second fiddle.

newspuppy,
I attended AND graduated from THE University IN Oklahoma and watched Billy win a Heisman while Sam Bradford's father did the blocking for him.
Oh yes, I graduated from OU too. I noticed you keep saying that your fans "attended" your school. I see.
Sorry you are so upset, but it is not going to get better, at least this year with Basketball coming. Heck we even whipped you in wrestling this year!
And before ypou think of it, we have more Merit Scholars too.
BOOMER SOONER!!!!
Gotta go pack for Florida...

I don't give a rats @ss where they're from DJ; keep signing great players, bottom line. Get the best players, whether in TX or Timbuktu. Obviously I'm not a member of the "Okie Faction" - I've seen a bunch of them quit down there in Norman. Shall I remind you of all of the names that did during the Stoops tenure???
