Bigger than Dallas:
BYU's recent revelation that it will play Oklahoma in football next September could be big for both teams. Coach Bob Stoops said on Monday the game — which will be played at the under-construction Dallas Cowboys Stadium — is "a home game for us, but we'll still have six here."
"I'm sure it'd be exciting for our fans to go down and be in that great stadium," Stoops said. "All the players we have from Texas, and playing a great BYU team, I think it'd be incredibly exciting."
The Sooners already are contracted to play a road game at Miami, Fla., and a home game against Tulsa.
No more casualties:
Stoops said there were no academically ineligible players for the national championship game (safety Lendy Holmes, now a senior, was ineligible for last year's Fiesta Bowl, but he came to media interviews Monday), and Stoops said he expected everyone to be available who has been (linebacker Ryan Reynolds, defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger and running back DeMarco Murray are out).
"We are hopeful that Alan Davis and Austin Box will be back," Stoops said. "We're hoping here fairly soon."
Internet rumors that Holmes and offensive tackle Phil Loadholt were academic casualties, they said, were laughable. Loadholt graduated last week.
"It's the Internet," Loadholt said. "A lot of things go on there. Half of them aren't true. I wasn't too surprised by it."
Samwise:
Quarterback Sam Bradford's new cast on his left hand is essentially a hard thumb brace that doesn't extend past his wrist.
Running back Chris Brown said teammates razzed Bradford when he got back from New York last week, even making him hold his Heisman pose. But center Jon Cooper revealed that some teammates didn't wait.
"That was before he even won it," Cooper said with a laugh. "Yeah, I don't know if you want to say that. I think I just told that to the wrong people."
After practice last week, Stoops got the team up as usual and said, "How 'bout Sam Bradford winning the Heisman?" That caused a stirring cheer.
"He brought it in the locker room, and it was kind of a cool deal. Everyone kind of took pictures with their phones, and some guys took pictures with him. He was a good sport about it. I'm sure he's taken a million pictures since then, but I'm sure this means more to him, that he can come and take pictures with the guys he earned it with."
And what of the inevitable addition to Heisman Park, where oversized statutes sit of the Sooners' previous four winners?
"I just hope they don't put it up 'til after he leaves," Cooper said. "You can't go to a school where there's a statue of yourself."
Christmas wishes:
Three days before Christmas, Stoops was asked if he had finished his Christmas shopping. He laughed.
"Nah, I haven't shopped," he said. "I haven't been to this mall (Sooner Mall), in 10 years, once. I took a recruit's mother there one time after dinner. That's the only time I think I've been in it, other than to go to the playground when my kids were a year or two. I'd let 'em go in there and then walk right back out. No, unfortunately. My wife's pretty understanding. I'm not a shopper. I don't shop. Fortunately, Santa Claus takes care of my kids. I've got a great wife. She handles it."

I agree with Coop, they can't put the statue up til Sam's gone......which won't be until after next season!!

I liked that internet spoof statue of Sam upside down doing his sideline flying trick.
