Denver Post: Stoops a candidate for Broncos

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is focused on Florida. But the Denver Broncos may be focused on Stoops.

In a Wednesday Denver Post report, Stoops is among eight names "already being mentioned in the Broncos' search for a new head coach."

Mike Shanahan, for 14 years the Broncos' head man, was fired Tuesday. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is a 1965 OU graduate and is among several NFL owners with whom Stoops has a strong relationship.

Stoops is the only college coach listed in the report. The other candidates: Bill Cowher, Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci, Bill Parcells, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Buccaneers defensive backs coach Raheem Morris and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

Stoops completes his 10th season at OU Jan. 8 when the No. 1-ranked Sooners play No. 2 Florida in Miami, Fla. He is under contract through 2013. He receives a $3 million anniversary bonus on Thursday in addition to his $2.775 million salary for 2008 and, if OU beats Florida, up to $585,000 in incentive bonuses, plus an annual raise of $150,000.

Gonna miss Shanahan, but I would sure like to see Stoops come to town, though I doubt if it will happen.

Please no!! The NFL is big boy football where the teams have evenly matched talent. Stoops has made a career of winning games on national signing day and in the few games he has coached where the other team had similar talent his teams have been embarrassed. Stoops should stay in college where he can put in 40 hour weeks and win 42 to 7 on Saturday and leave the NFL to real coaches.

if i was the owner of the Broncos i'd be looking at Stoops also if my only other option was Romeo Cornell or one of the other losers who recently got their pink slips.
