Speed demons: So much has been made of Florida's speed. One publication reports that seven Gators run sub-4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Going by last spring's conditioning test results, Oklahoma has zero (DeMarco Murray, at 4.42, was the fastest).

One reason Florida has so few turnovers on offense, said OU tight end Jermaine Gresham, "They're just so fast, you can't catch 'em."

Running back Jeff Demps is the world junior record holder in the 100 meters. But Florida teammates say wideout Percy Harvin is faster. So is running back Chris Rainey. So is wideout Louis Murphy, who one teammate said runs a 4.22.

Said defensive coordinator Brent Venables, "We've got some speed in the Big 12. I don't know if we have it across the board like Florida does. But it's not a track meet."

The Gators are just as fast on offense, they say.

"I think we do have some things in our playbook that are directed towards a team with a lot of speed," said OU quarterback Sam Bradford, "and I'm sure our coaches will make adjustments if we feel their speed is something we need to adjust to."

Lewis back: Venables said All-Big 12 linebacker Travis Lewis "missed a little bit" of practice Sunday, but said there was nothing physically wrong. "Aw, he had an issue," Venables said. "No big deal."

Williams fine: Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said right tackle Trent Williams missed Monday's media day trip to Dolphin Stadium because of flu-like symptoms. Williams rested at the team hotel and Wilson said he'd play Thursday.

Captain Nimmo: OU defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has been chasing walk-on quarterback John Nimmo all week as Nimmo simulates Gators quarterback Tim Tebow in practice. The 6-2, 207-pound Nimmo played at Ponca City.

"I asked Nimmo the other day, I said, 'Nimmo, between you and me, seriously, I gotta ask you, why didn't you go play somewhere?' " McCoy said. "A lot of guys, not just me, feel that Nimmo is a really good quarterback. He can run, he can pass. He does that against our starting D. "

Box report: Middle linebacker remains the position to watch. Mike Balogun still leads Austin Box, but Box is gaining ground in practice since returning from injury. Both will play, coaches say.

"I feel good. The knee feels really good so far this week," Box said. "These past five weeks the trainers and the medical staff have done a great a job getting me ready, preparing me to be in the best shape possible when I hit the field."
