Position watch: Defensive back

The Sooners went after a large group and currently have commitments from as many as five DBs. Cornerback seems locked up for now, with starters Dominique Franks and Brian Jackson back.

But safety appears wide open. Two seniors left, and only Quinton Carter has experience there.

Kevin Brent may be ideally suited for SS play.

Javon Harris enrolled early and hopes to crack the lineup in the spring. Marcus Trice is smaller and may be a future CB. Gabe Lynn is a CB but might switch to S to play sooner.

And Marshall Musil, if he plays defense, could be in the Nic Harris mold, big and physical.

News of the day

The Miami Herald reported again Monday that former Miami QB Robert Marve — or, at least his father, Eugene — is still considering transferring to OU. Bob Stoops told the Tulsa World last week there's "no way" that will happen, but Eugene Marve says his son is still considering transferring to OU, OSU, Purdue and South Florida.

CB Demontre Hurst, an OSU commitment from Lancaster, Texas, was reported by both Rivals and Scout to have visited OU over the weekend.

Countdown to signing day

After Sunday's activity — losing one commitment, gaining another — Rivals ranks the OU class of 22 at 12th nationally, while Scout ranks the Sooners sixth.

Prospects have only two more days to decide and a handful of 4-star prospects — and one 5-star, WR Rueben Randle — are still considering OU.
