Pooh's big adventure: Through five practices, senior Adron Tennell seems to have stepped into the role of starting wide receiver.

"I think Pooh's kind of stepped up and separated himself," said offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

The senior is coming off a knee injury but has gained weight and strength and said he now trusts his knee. It shows, teammates say.

"I think Pooh's had a great spring so far," said quarterback Sam Bradford. "Every day he comes out and shows you that he deserves to be on the field. He makes plays every day, and he makes competitive plays. He's made a couple deep-ball catches where he's just gone up and over a defender. It's really comforting as a quarterback to see that as a receiver."

The other starting receiver is sophomore Ryan Broyles, who played slot receiver last season.

Inside job: If Broyles stays outside, who will play slot in the Sooners' three-wide formation?

Jermaine Gresham, Mossis Madu, Matt Clapp are all getting a look, as will Brody Eldridge and DeMarco Murray when they return from injuries.

OU still has wide receivers, but right now, Wilson places greater trust in players from other positions to do it.

"Some of that's going on right now because the running back and tight end position is one of the more experienced, more well-rounded positions we have," he said.

Follicle talk: Bradford still hasn't cut his hair. He doesn't sound in any hurry to do so, even if it's become
a topic of discussion among fans and media.

"A bunch of people have asked me about that," he said, rolling his eyes. "They said they've seen articles about it. But I haven't seen anything. But if we're talking about my hair, obviously there's not much going on."

Youth is served: Junior defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said he really likes the four freshman defenders who left high school early to join spring practice. So far, he said, they've been great. Is that a plan McCoy ever considered at Oklahoma City's Southeast High School?

"Heck no," he said. "Quote that. No. Because I figure college is gonna be here. I mean, nobody's promised tomorrow, nobody's promised next week. But if God blesses you to make it, it's gonna be there. Enjoy high school. Just don't rush to leave college, because after college, it's the real world and you're gonna be like, 'Dang, sure wish I had stayed in college another year,' or two years or whatever. Just don't rush it. So I didn't even think about coming out early. I wanted to enjoy high school. It's my last semester to be a kid. Then it's time to grow up."
