Brown might not vote in poll
Coach is unsure about further participation in "flawed system."
UPSET
Mack Brown:
Says he might elect to not vote in USA Today coaches poll due to recent BCS controversies.

Texas football coach Mack Brown, long a fixture on USA Today's college football poll, said Tuesday he may elect to not be among the 61 coaches who cast a vote.
"I haven't been asked, and I haven't made a decision," Brown said during a media conference call with Big 12 head coaches. "I'm on the American Football Coaches Association board of trustees, so since the American Football Coaches are the ones that support the USA Today coaches poll, obviously I want to talk to coach Teaff (AFCA executive director Grant Teaff) and different people before I make a final decision."
Brown said his discomfort in participating again stems from concerns over recent voting controversies. Last season, for example, Texas defeated Oklahoma in its annual October Big 12 showdown in Dallas, but after the Longhorns were defeated by Texas Tech, OU defeated Tech to force a three-way tie (all three were 7-1).
The Sooners got to play in the Big 12 championship game as the South Division representative and after defeating Missouri in the title game, played Florida for the national championship.
OU lost to the Gators and Texas rallied to beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Texas finished third in the final USA Today coaches poll, while OU ended up fifth.
The tiebreaker — the team ranked highest in the Bowl Championship Series standings, which combine human subjectivity in two polls and an aggregate of six computer rankings — hadn't previously been used by the Big 12, although the rule was included in the league's tiebreaker rules when the BCS began in 1998.
The Southeastern Conference implemented a similar tiebreaker in 2003, then had to use the system to determine its Eastern Division winner that season. In the SEC, though, the BCS's lowest-ranked team is eliminated and the winner is determined by head-to-head competition.
Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said in November that the Big 12 would discuss tiebreaker alternatives, including the SEC's version. The Atlantic Coast Conference's divisional tiebreaker is the same as the Big 12.
Based on its strong finish — 65-21 over No. 2 Texas Tech, 61-41 over No. 11 Oklahoma State and 62-21 over No. 20 Missouri — OU climbed over Texas late and went into bowl season ranked No. 1 by the computers, No. 1 in the coaches poll and No. 2 in the Harris poll. Texas was second in the computers and third in both polls.
Also, the AFCA requires its voting body to award its No. 1 vote to the winner of the BCS title game. Brown wanted to vote Texas No. 1.
To Brown, the system is flawed.
"I just think we — all of us in college football — need to continue to look at what's best for trying to crown a champion. And I was concerned after some of the things I've seen for the last six years, and they popped up again last year. And as a voter, I want to make sure I know all the rules, because I thought I did and I got confused a little bit last year on some things that popped up, and I want to make sure that I feel like that the system is such that I want to be part of it.
"And if it's not, it's no big deal to anybody other than to me and to the University of Texas. It's a decision I'll have to make based on where I feel like we're going."

Come on Mack , you have not been asked, and you have not decided , if you have not been asked then whats to decide? Maybe to cry and moan some more, or shut the hell up and be a man for once.

Even though I don't like Texas, for obvious reasons, I would have to agree with him. The system is flawed.

I agree with Mack Brown. The system is flawed beyond all the Okies thinking he is talking about last year's "OU or Texas who makes it season". Why can't two SEC teams play for the national title or two Big 12 teams. Everybody knows the national championship (if you look beyond OU/Texas) was won between Florida vs Alabama. Frankly, Utah got screwed on a 13-0 season by not going to the big show. They hammered Alabama. What i don't get is how Texas finishes #3 and OU #5. At minimum, surely OU fans get that....look beyond the big 12 people.

As for USC, I remember the OU fans saying "they don't know their football about 4 years ago. Well, apparently they did as OU got crushed. Then following year "oh, we just go Boise State in the bowl..we got screwed". Then meet David Zarnasky as Boise State beat OU. OU sounds like Nebraska fans from 4 years ago who expect the system to give them something. Stoops is alot more level headed than the OU fans themselves. That is a fact. Let us not forget the Big 12 is Texas north conference (OU, OSU, KU, MIZZOU, etc.)

All you had to do was beat Texas Tech. That is it nothing more nothing less. If you would have beat Texas Tech this would not even be a story

A playoff system is truly needed. Mack is whining and continues to whine because the Longhorn fans are a bunch of whiners. Colt didn't win the Heisman, we didn't win the Big 12 Championship, and Life isn't fair.
Fair is where they show pigs, ya'll. Grow up and get over it.

Maybe if they're lucky, Mack will be like Groucho Marx. He wouldn't be a member of ANY organization that would have him for a member.

Mack is still crying. He knows the rules but because the longhorns did not get in the Big 12 game, he cries foul. Mack is a joke to all of college football coaches. It is time for him to hang it up.

Just another example of his lack of class. Why is this news? He hasn't made decision.
I have a feeling most coaches like this are asked questions with bait like this, not realizing how it is going to be used, and then the article is printed making it look like the coach sought out someone to listen to him. So really part of the blame of this goes to the press. They sure like to stir up the fire. I can understand many coaches reluctance to do interviews.
