Don't even get me started......... We can now walk kids through our new stadium instead of showing them the DVD. That's our new recruiting strength?

And comparing yourself to people who are running for President of the Unites States?

Oh, and this gem- "every decision that has been made has been well thought through by me and my staff"

Okay, I've been thinking all along that he was an petulant, arrogant, somewhat narcissistic coach who just shot from the hip. Now we find out he's actually thinking this stuff through.

This should be another fun season.

While all of us armchair quarterbacks can sit and critisize coaches, we better consider what the coaches are faced with. Some coaches recruit questionable student-athletes that are great players and help the school win a majority of games, but some end up in prison after leaving school. Other coaches try to recruit the student-athletic, and have a hard time winning. Other coaches take a chance on 2nd chance athletics, with varying results. Personally, I believe Coach Gundy is building a good program and as Mr. Klein says, he could be on the hotseat this year if he doesn't win.

Gundy is fundamentally lacking the talent to be a major college coach.

"Some coaches recruit questionable student-athletes that are great players and help the school win a majority of games, but some end up in prison after leaving school." - T Bone

You're correct in that Gundy recruited the guilty and now convicted Chris Collins when he was facing charges for child rape and also recruited Adarius Bowman after he was dismissed from North Carolina following drug charges only to have Bowman plead guilty of drug possession a few months ago. Alex Odiari... Calvin Gundy has long ago ceded any high ground he pretended to have in this reguard, T Bone.

So if Gundy has had 3 top 25 recruiting classes in 4 years worth of his recruits and if these are a "much higher level of talent" players than Miles 9 win Alamo Bowl players and if we've had 4 years worth of patience... what's with the panicy infusion of all the JUCO guys this year? NINE in this class, to be exact.

Jeray Chatham, David Washington, and Brandon Pettigrew are the ONLY Miles recruits left on OSU's roster. The rest are Gundy's.

"You have to go out and get the guys. Then, you have to get them into program and get them to learn the system. And, you have to develop those players." - Mike Gundy

And so four years later we're going the JUCO route and talking about how "young" and "thin" we are at key positions and how we have players that need more time in the "system".

Speaking of Recruiting, how much of Gundy's recruiting rankings are based on the non-qualifiers and over-signee's Gundy is so infamous for? What happens to those rankings when you remove the Eric Preast's and Myron McKinney's and Anthony Jones' and Adrian Hamilton's and Preston Brown's and Quinton Prince's and Jacoby Reed's and Alfred Dupree's that never played a down?

How much of those rankings were based on the Calvin Micken's and TJ Minor's and Scott Broughton's and Jonathan Lewis' and Donnell Williams' and Marcus Richardson's that Gundy obviously shouldn't have wasted scholarships (in retrospect) on?

"The important thing for us is patience. We understand none of this happens overnight. We have a plan, and we have been very good about sticking to that plan and staying the course." - Mike Gundy

OK Mike. EXACTLY what is this plan? 4 years... 5... 6... 12???? Wait until all the facilities are complete then hope that results in such good recruits that it will make bad coaching irrelevant?

Is 18-19 part of the plan?

"Time in the system." One of my favorites! Would that be Fedora's system or Brewer's or Trooper Taylor's system? Is it Bedford's "cockroach fan" defensive system or Beckman's 119th D? How in the world can you get by with blaming, "time in a "system" and yet you change Coordinator's and "systems" every couple of years or so?

The first three quarters in this Gundy "system" worked pretty well against Texas and A&M... apparently the players just spent too much time in it because it didn't work so well in the 4th. Perhaps less time in his system is the key.

Lord knows it has nothing to do with coaching. It's the lack of facilities and Miles "thugs" and "time in the system" and scheduling the likes of Sun Belt Mid-majors and "cockroach fans" and we're STILL young and well... anthing and everthing except coaching.

It makes one wonder how teams like Utah and Boise and Rutgers and Louisville and Kansas and Hawaii pulled it off? Must have been magic.

Since I watch OSU Football, There has been great improvement in the team except for defense. Last year, the only team that embarrased OSU was OU. I hope Gundy pulls it off and wins nine or ten games this coming year. They are starting to play competitively with the Big 12 south teams and that is just about all we can hope for. Six Gun: at the moment, I cannot think of one OSU player that has gone to prison.

"They are starting to play competitively with the Big 12 south teams..." - T Bone

In Miles last three years at OSU, we went 7-8 against the Big XII South. That's not great but seems fairly competitive. Since Gundy took over, we've gone 4-11 against the South.

"great improvement" - T Bone

That's not what I consider "improvement", T Bone.

"...and that is just about all we can hope for." - T Bone

Sorry T but that's the same loser mentality that stuck us with Gundy in the first place.

Please explain exactly why it is that Kansas can "hope for" (and achieve) a BCS Bowl and we can't.

Why is it that Tech fans EXPECT to compete for the conference crown and BCS Bowls year in and year out yet such expectations are folly and considered negative Gundy bashing should OSU fans insist on raising the bar?

Oh... wait... that's right. Tech hired Mike Leach and managed to keep him in Lubbock. They didn't settle for a Gundy because they feared success might result in the departure of a good coach.

No matter how often the servers of the stuff tell you it's "Orange Kool-Aid", that flavor you're drinking is called, "loser".

"Settle for mediocrity at best. Settle for Gundy."

Think about it.

BTW..."Gundy is entering his fourth season as OSU's head coach and finds himself a lightning rod of criticism. Some of it is warranted. Some is not."

Maybe it is the summer and my memory is short due to lack of use but, exactly what criticism has Gundy received that was unwarranted?

OSUArthur, Fayetteville (7/9/2008 1:03:26 PM)
The Miles thugs assessment is somewhat warranted. The only OSU player in the two eras that potentially facing jail time is a player that Miles recruited and Gundy kicked off. That's Prentiss Elliot. Not all of Miles players were thugs or anything close to it. Van Zant is a great human being and was recruited by Miles. Most of the players that Gundy kicked off really were players that were constantly being brought in because of trouble with the law. However, campus police are extremely lenient with players. The only time the players can usually get into trouble is with the Stillwater police.

None of this really matters. I agree that all of these are excuses, but programs do take time if there is a change in the system. Anything less than 8 wins this year and Gundy should be in Holder's office explaining why he deserves to stay. We should have four gimme wins in the non-con and then at least four wins in the big 12 schedule. Unless A&M flourishes under this new coach we shouldn't lose to A&M, especially not with it being this many years in a row. Baylor should be a cakewalk, as should Iowa State. Also, we should win either Tech or Colorado on the road. If we don't pull this off then improvement really hasn't been going on. Also, there's no need for such animosity. We're all OSU fans and thus we should all be fans of the school first and sports second. This is what separates us from OU fans.

"I agree that all of these are excuses, but programs do take time if there is a change in the system." - OSUArthur

Bob Stoops took over a program that had had 4 consecutive losing seasons and won a National Title in his 2nd year.

Less Miles won a National Title his 3rd year at LSU.

Pete Carroll won a National Title his 3rd year at USC.

Nick Saban won a National Title his 2nd year at LSU.

The Ohio State guy won a National Title his 2nd year at Ohio State.

Urban Meyer won a National Title in his 2nd year at Florida.

PLAYERS ARE ONLY IN SCHOOL FOR 4 YEARS... 5 WITH A REDSHIRT.

TIME in the system????????????

What TIME? Get a clue. This is COLLEGE Football.

If you have a "system" that kids can't pick up before 4 years... guess what? TIMES OUT! You have a LOSER "system".

How long has Crabtree and Harrell been in Mike Leach's "system"?

How long has that UO QB been in Bob Stoops "system"?

How long has the Kansas QB been in their "system"?

How long has the Missouri QB been in that "system"?

AND, why the heck do you recruiting so many JUCO guys (9 this year alone) that will only be here for 2 years when "time in the system" is the excuse you're propogating????????

"Time in the system." LOL! What a joke!

"Should win"!

LOL!

In '05... we "SHOULD" have won against Baylor...

in '06, we "SHOULD" have won against Houston...

last year, we "SHOULD" have won against Troy State...

so now we're supposed to put a lot of faith in unwarranted raw speculation and wishfull thinking about SHOULD like Gundy ever lived up to SHOULD????

Bless you're heart, Arthur.
