Missing in action: OSU coach Mike Gundy continues to list senior tight end Brandon Pettigrew's playing status as "day-to-day."

Pettigrew sat out his second straight game in OSU's 56-28 home win over Texas A&M on Saturday. It is believed Pettigrew sprained an ankle during practice on Sept. 17.

Pettigrew's presence particularly as a blocker was missed against the Aggies. Texas A&M displayed a defensive front alignment OSU had not seen much of in their preparations for the Big 12 opponent. The lack of familiarity with A&M's scheme and having two first-year players, Wilson Youman and Jamal Mosley, replacing Pettigrew contributed to OSU's running game struggles early.

"I don't think there's any question that when he's not playing, you're going to miss him," Gundy said. "The two guys we had in there playing for him were adequate and gave great effort. But it's not the same as having a guy who is a potential first-round (NFL) draft pick."

Clearing the sinuses: Quarterback Zac Robinson battled a cold throughout the A&M win. Despite being a tad bit under the weather, the ailment didn't affect his performance. The junior was 10-of-13 passing for 186 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 66 yards and two scores.

What did not get recorded officially in Robinson's statistics was a crunching crack-back block the QB delivered. Robinson put a vicious blow on A&M defensive back Alton Dixon on a late fourth-quarter Kendall Hunter touchdown run that was called back due to a holding penalty on Youman.

"That was the play I was most mad about," Robinson said. "I was giving Wilson a hard time about that. It's always fun to try and get a crack-back on a guy who's not looking instead of me taking the hits all the time."

By the numbers: Missouri only has trailed for 13 seconds in its five games this season Junior Perrish Cox leads the Big 12 and ranks second nationally in kickoff returns with a 35.8-yard average. Kentucky's Derrick Locke, a Hugo native, leads the nation with a 38.0-yard kickoff return average.

Maybe not statistically, but for anyone who watched the game there was definitely something wrong with Zac's game Saturday night. Maybe it was the cold and maybe it wasn't but he overthrew and underthrew wide open receivers a couple times and threw a pass into double coverage that nearly was, and probably should have been, intercepted. Also, he fumbled twice as well...once handling a low snap and the other where the ball slipped out of his hand for some reason when getting ready to throw to Dez in the flat.

He's a great QB and I know they are minor mistakes but he definitely can't afford to make them when playing against Mizzou this weekend. Go pokes!
