Friday pep rally to feature OSU men and women.

Practices for the state's college basketball teams begin this weekend and the Travis Ford era at Oklahoma State will be launched with a Homecoming & Hoops celebration Friday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The OSU men's and women's basketball teams will be showcased and they will participate in intrasquad scrimmages.

Gallagher-Iba Arena doors are scheduled to open at 8 p.m. for the free event and, at 9 p.m., football coach Mike Gundy and members of the Cowboy football team will be on hand for a pep rally. OSU plays a homecoming football game Saturday against Baylor.

Ford, OSU's new men's basketball coach, returns five players (Byron Eaton, Terrel Harris, James Anderson, Obi Muonelo and Ibrahima Thomas) who started at least 18 games last season. The Cowboys were picked to finish in the middle of the Big 12.

Oklahoma, the preseason Big 12 favorite, begins practice with a 5 p.m. workout Friday at the Lloyd Noble Center.

The Sooners return four starters from a 23-12 team that advanced to the second round of the 2008 NCAA tournament.

Blake Griffin, the team's leading scorer and rebounder last season, is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year. Guard Willie Warren is the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year.

Oral Roberts opens with a 5 p.m. practice at the Mabee Center. Head coach Scott Sutton starts his 10th season with his greenest team since Caleb Green and Ken Tutt were freshmen in the fall of 2003.

Top returnees for the Golden Eagles are senior guard Robert Jarvis, the team's leading scorer from last year (16.1 points per game), along with senior forward Marcus Lewis, senior guard Kelvin Sango and sophomore forward Andre Hardy.
