OSU Notebook

The grand man:
Oklahoma State sophomore running back Kendall Hunter became an accomplished back in Saturday’s 28-24 loss at No. 1 Texas.
Hunter’s 161-yard rushing effort on just 18 carries was the most allowed by the stout Longhorns defense. Entering the game, Texas’ opponents averaged only 48 yards on the ground. The most Texas had given up to an individual this season was 94 to UTEP’s Terrell Jackson.
”(Texas) had a pretty good defense, but I have to give credit to my offensive line,” Hunter said. “Our guys opened some lines for me all day, and I felt comfortable with the way the line played.”
Hunter’s performance also pushed him over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He has 1,116 yards rushing for the season and is the first OSU sophomore to surpass the mark in a season since Thurman Thomas in 1985.
Hunter’s performance didn’t surprise quarterback Zac Robinson.
”He’s an unbelievable player. He proved that today,” Robinson said. “Texas has good athletes, and he was making them miss all over the place.”
Pettigrew the pass catcher:
With Texas giving extra attention to wide receiver Dez Bryant, tight end Brandon Pettigrew became Robinson’s favorite target.
Pettigrew matched his career high with eight receptions. He finished with 83 yards. In last year’s loss to Texas, Pettigrew also had eight catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Pettigrew returned last week after missing three games with a sprained ankle. Saturday’s eight catches
were three shy of his season total.
”I was on it today. I was getting back in a rhythm,” Pettigrew said. “Zac got me a few balls. Blocking wasn’t too bad. I’m almost there.”
Pettigrew’s 83 yards gives him 1,192 for his career and moves him into 14th place on OSU’s career receiving yardage list. Pettigrew passed Terry Brown (1,113), Terance Richardson (1,114) and Gerald Bain (1,144) on Saturday.
Robinson moves up:
Robinson moved past Josh Fields into second place on the OSU career total offense list. Robinson had 199 yards passing and 26 yards rushing at Texas. The junior quarterback has 6,122 yards total offense. Coach Mike Gundy is the school’s career total offense leader with 7,749 yards.
No chip shot:
Sophomore kicker Dan Bailey’s 39-yard field goal early in the fourth was the longest of his career.
Full house:
Saturday’s announced attendance at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was 98,518, the largest home crowd in Texas history and the second-largest crowd to watch an OSU game. The biggest crowd for an OSU game was 104,253 at Michigan in 1992.
VIP guest list:
Gov. Brad Henry and his wife Kim attended Saturday’s game as guests of OSU president Burns Hargis.
