Robinsons looking forward to son's homecoming game

The Oklahoma State football team plays at Colorado on Saturday, but in a sense it is a home game for Myra and Rusty Robinson — the parents of Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson.

The Robinsons live in the Denver suburb of Littleton, where Zac attended Chatfield High School. When the Cowboys play in Stillwater, it's an expensive, 660-mile trip for Myra and Rusty. On Saturday, they'll make a 45-minute drive to Boulder, where the 11th-ranked Cowboys and Colorado clash at Folsom Field.

The Robinsons are hosting a party for the parents of other OSU players and the wives of Cowboy coaches at their home on Friday night.

"This is the only game in Zac's career that he will play in Colorado, and a lot of the OSU parents have never been to Colorado, so we wanted to host a get-together for everybody," Myra explained. "When we have traveled to other places in the Big 12, you just hang out in hotel rooms. I just thought this would be a better way to spend the evening."

On the party menu are chili, chicken spaghetti, sandwiches and desserts. Roderick Price, the father of OSU senior safety Ricky Price, will get special fare — two buffalo burgers.

"No one else gets a buffalo burger," Rusty Robinson said. "Just Roderick."

Rusty says he and Myra have established close friendships with the parents of Price, punter Matt Fodge (Zac's roommate), safety T.J. Bell and safety Andre Sexton.

"The Robinsons are such good people," Roderick Price said. "The bonding with all of the parents has been tremendous."

Roderick and his wife, Exie, have attended 40 consecutive Oklahoma State games. They don't use employee vacation time during the spring and summer; instead, they save it for football season.

Myra and Rusty Robinson, both of whom work for an oil-and-gas company, have attended each of the 21 games since Zac was promoted to the starting quarterback role.

"It would drive us nuts to not be there," Rusty Robinson said. "We're pretty exhausted when we get home on Sundays, but we're always glad we went. Zac expects to see us after the games, and we want to be there for him — win or lose."

OSU plays at Colorado for the first time since the 2004 season — when Zac Robinson was a high school senior.

"Ever since I signed with OSU (in February 2005), I've looked forward to playing back in my home state. Now, it's finally here," Zac Robinson said. "It's a nice deal for my parents. They've been great about getting to every game — even the game down in Troy, Ala. It's definitely going to be nice for them to have a (short) drive to Boulder."

Whether they do it by air or by highway, the travel to Cowboy games is an expensive endeavor for the OSU parents.

"You don't think about the money. You want to be there for your kids," Roderick Price said. "We've definitely rolled up some frequent-flier miles. Needless to say, it's a tremendous commitment.

"You start in flag football with your son, and then all of a sudden you're at the end of his college football career. It's hard to believe that we only have three games left. It's been a great time."

In 1999 through the 2007 season, Larry and Juana Woods of Oklahoma City had at least one son (Rashaun, followed by D'Juan, followed by Donovan) in the OSU football program. The Woods parents never missed a game. They attended 108 consecutive Cowboy contests.

Myra Robinson expresses a determination to see every game that involves Zac Robinson.

"Zac will play four years, and it will go by very quickly," she said. "If I were to miss a game, I would regret it. I will never regret the time, the expense or the hassle of going to the games. It's so much fun."
