OSU continues building its future

Not knowing their bowl destination and opponent until next Sunday, members of the Oklahoma State coaching staff will spend most of the week on out-of-state recruiting trips.

The priority, as has been the case for several years, is to address defensive needs. A lingering imbalance has plagued the OSU program. While ranking seventh nationally in total offense and eighth in scoring, the Cowboys are 85th in total defense and 109th in pass defense.

The Cowboy regular season ended with Saturday's 61-41 home loss to Oklahoma.

"We got worn down. There's no doubt about it," OSU associate head coach Joe DeForest said. "You'd love to play 15, 16, 17 guys on defense, but we're not at that point depth-wise.

"We're going to be OK. We really are. I think we'll be a lot better next year. Next year is the year we've been pointing to."

The Cowboys are 9-3 overall, 5-3 in the Big 12.

"There are so many good teams in this league," DeForest said. "We are 9-3 and we finish fourth (in the Big 12 South). It's just crazy."

OSU's players and coaches did a great job this year and there is no doubt in most people's minds that if the defense would've stopped these top-tier teams (UT, TT and OU) that Ok State likely would've had chances to win all three.

Anyone who watched the OU game last Saturday could feel it. So hope Coach DeForest's claim is true about next year. OSU is such a fun team to watch and are drawing fans from all over the country. Many of my online friends (Facebook, etc) are giving compliments about the excitement of many of their big games this season.

No doubt about it, OSU DID have chances to win against UT and OU. The only game they never did even compete in this year was at Tech. Keep up the good work Pokes! Our time is coming.

The Arizona Republic TV Report showed that the Oklahoma State vs UO game drew the highest number of television watchers for all sporting events. 5.1. Have converted many people out in Sun City, Arizona to be aware of OSU's Athletic Program. Every little bit of exposure helps. Wearing Orange OSU shirts and all when golfing or exercising. Now all I need is an orange sports coat and an OSU Tie.
