SeaWorld Saturday: Following Saturday's one-hour, 40-minute practice session on the University of San Diego's stadium grass surface, Oklahoma State's coaches and players were taken to SeaWorld.

Cornerback Perrish Cox was among several players who participated in the Dolphin Encounters show.

"I was a little nervous around the dolphins, but it was a lot of fun," said Cox, his sunglasses dotted with drops of water. "It was a good experience, and I'm glad we did it."

Coaches and players squeezed into a packed Shamu Theater to watch the performance of SeaWorld's famous killer whale. Among spectators soaked by the splashed water was offensive line coach Joe Wickline.

Davis arrives: Because of travel problems from his home in Texas, sophomore wide receiver Damian Davis missed OSU's practices on Thursday and Friday. He was back on the practice field Saturday. Davis has emerged as a big-play receiver, averaging 21.8 yards on 16 catches. He scored twice in OSU's Oct. 11 victory at Missouri.

History lesson: Since it was announced on Dec. 7 that Oklahoma State would be a Holiday Bowl participant, there have been frequent mentions of the 1988 Holiday Bowl, when the Mike Gundy-quarterbacked Cowboys blasted Wyoming 62-14.

When addressing his players this month, Gundy apparently hasn't reminisced.

"I didn't even know that he played in the Holiday Bowl," Cowboy cornerback Jacob Lacey said on Saturday.

Gundy becomes the only man to have been a Holiday Bowl participant both as a player and a head coach.

No border crossing: It is common for San Diego visitors to cross the border for shopping and sightseeing in Mexico. In advance of the 1988 Holiday Bowl, Cowboy players were allowed to visit Mexico. This week, Mexico is off-limits to the players.

"They won't let us even get close to the border," OSU linebacker Andre Sexton said.

Against the Pac-10: OSU faces Oregon for the first time. Against Pac-10 Conference opponents, the Cowboys are 7-9.

A win on Tuesday would be OSU's third consecutive victory in games against Pac-10 opposition. The Cowboys opened the 2004 season by beating UCLA, and they opened the 2008 season with a win over Washington State.

Away from home: In games played away from Stillwater, the Cowboys are 3-2 this season. If they defeat Oregon, the Cowboys will have recorded four wins away from Stillwater for the first time since 1997.

The defense: The Cowboy defense doesn't get much positive recognition because of its statistical rankings (86th nationally in total defense, 110th in pass defense), but nine opponents this season were held below their overall season scoring averages.

The OSU defense has forced 23 turnovers in 12 games. In 13 games last season, the Cowboys forced 19 turnovers.
