INVITED
Brandon Pettigrew: OSU tight end will get another chance to play college football in the Jan. 24 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Solid footing: Tuesday night's Holiday Bowl will be the third football game played in the past eight days at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. The natural grass playing surface has taken a beating in that time between rain that hit the San Diego area the middle of last week, the Dec. 23 Poinsettia Bowl and Sunday night's NFL game between the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos.

Holiday Bowl logos were being painted on the stadium's playing surface Monday and prevented Oklahoma State and Oregon from conducting their normal walkthrough practices the day before the game.

But the coaches for both teams, OSU's Mike Gundy and Oregon's Mike Bellotti, downplayed any concerns about the grass surface.

"Both teams have to play on the same surface. I'm sure the grounds crew will do a good job to have the field in the best playing conditions possible," Gundy said. "The approach to take as a team is whatever the surface is, you go play and have fun."

Said Bellotti: "I'm sure the field will be in great shape, and it will be the same for both teams."

Next for Pettigrew: OSU senior tight end Brandon Pettigrew has accepted an invitation to play in the Jan. 24 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

In its 60th year, the Senior Bowl serves as a week-long talent evaluation camp for National Football League teams.

Coaching staffs from two NFL teams coach the Senior Bowl squads, and practices and are attended by more than 800 general managers, head coaches, assistant coaches, scouts and other front office personnel from all 32 NFL teams.

Pettigrew has 36 catches for 421 yards this season.

Beckman sighting: Former OSU defensive coordinator Tim Beckman arrived in San Diego on Sunday with his family. Beckman, who was hired as Toledo's head coach on Dec. 4, is part of the official OSU travel party and took in practices Sunday and Monday.

Beckman, though, will be strictly an observer and not have any coaching role in Tuesday's Holiday Bowl game, according to Gundy.

Dress code: Oregon is the home team for the Holiday Bowl. The Ducks have up to 48 different combinations of uniform helmets, jerseys and pants. For the bowl game against OSU, Oregon will wear its traditional green helmet with black jerseys and black pants.

OSU will wear its road white jerseys. The Cowboys typically have worn orange pants for road games, but wore the white pants for the final regular season road game at Colorado last month.

Oregon should wear their bright yellow unis with yellow helmet and OSU should wear the all orange uni. Where is the fun and imagination in the coaches?

Zach, OSU can't wear orange tops. They are the away team therefore having to wear white. The only way they could wear all orange is if they sacrificed a timeout as a consequence.
