Trooper Taylor, Oklahoma State's co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach, has accepted an offer to become Auburn's assistant head coach and wide receivers coach.

Auburn University officials confirmed the hiring on Monday.

Taylor, who had just completed his first season on the Cowboy staff, was in the Oklahoma State football office on Monday, apparently to remove personal items from his office. New Auburn coach Gene Chizik also has hired University of Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and OSU running backs coach Curtis Luper.

In an Auburn press release, Taylor was quoted as saying, "This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic offensive staff that he has put together. I'm excited to be coaching at a program like Auburn and (returning) to the Southeastern Conference."

Before joining the Oklahoma State staff, Taylor coached at Tennessee in 2004-07.

As a result of the Luper departure, OSU is contractually scheduled to receive a $100,000 buyout payment. There will be no buyout payment related to the Taylor departure. An OSU spokesman confirmed that Taylor never signed a contract during his one year in Stillwater.

Cowboy coach Mike Gundy has three vacancies on his staff. Last month, defensive coordinator Tim Beckman departed to become the new head coach at Toledo. Luper and Taylor each had an annual salary of $228,000 at OSU, while Beckman was paid $303,000.

Gundy was on a recruiting trip on Monday. He was unavailable for an interview but
released a statement through the OSU media relations office: "We are moving forward to complete our staff — even as we speak. As everyone knows, this is a very exciting time to be at Oklahoma State.

"Our program has a lot of momentum, and we will be looking to complete our staff with coaches who share the same goals we have set for ourselves."
