Holder: No problem with Gundy's contract

Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said Cowboys fans have no need to be concerned that football coach Mike Gundy has yet to sign a lucrative contract extension.
The OSU/A&M Board of Regents announced last December that it had approved a new seven-year contract worth $15.7 million for Gundy, who is 27-23 in four seasons at his alma mater.
The contract, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2009 and runs through December 2015, pays Gundy an annual compensation of more than $2.2 million per season. His previous six-year contract, which escalated in value each season, was worth $1,053,000 in 2008.
Six months after it was approved, Gundy has yet to place his John Hancock on the dotted line. Not to worry, according to Holder.
"No problem on signing the contract," Holder wrote in an e-mail. "The process is ahead of schedule. (Gundy's) original contract agreed upon in January of 2005 was not signed until October or November of 2005. I remember because I signed it as athletic director, but it was negotiated when I was coaching golf.
"There are no issues, and it will be signed in the next few weeks."
Gundy received the sweet deal after OSU finished the 2008 regular season 9-3, only the eighth time in school history the Pokes posted at least nine wins.
Holder also shot down rumors that the delay in obtaining Gundy's signature is because the Cowboys coach has an agent who is driving a hard bargain.
"Neither (basketball coach) Travis Ford or Mike Gundy have agents (negotiating for them)," Holder wrote. "I have only dealt with the coaches."

He is a coach with hardly any head coaching experience--experience he would not have were OSU not desperate, and were he not a popular almumnus. He is barely over .500, and he did that with Les Miles' recruits, which have now mostly graduated or quit. If he has half a brain, he will sign that contract right away, before they take it back. I know of no other coach in the country with such a short resume and lack of proven success, who is earning over 2 mill a year. Grab it, Mike.
Oh. And Boomer Sooner.

In related OSU news, Interim Athletic Director T. Boone Pickens implied a seven-victory threshold would be necessary to secure a new contract for Coach Gundy. Calls to Interim OSU President T. Boone Pickens were not returned. However, Interim Head of the OSU Board of Regents T. Boone Pickens indicated that would be acceptable to him.
In other Stillwater news, papers have been filed to change the name Mike Gundy to Mike Gundy-Pickens.

Don't send my boy to Texas, I'd rather see him dead;
Oh send him to Missouri, or better still OU!
Don't send my boy to OSU, for that would never do.

Poor sooners, some can't read or write, but they aren't bad in football. The band can play boomer sooner and some fans can sing boomer sooner after a few years of practice. What more could you ask for. Gosh, they even wonder when coaching contracts will be signed.

My gosh, the OU trolls are out in droves today. He isn't your coach so don't worry about it. He took the beaten up mess Miles left behind and turned it into football team ranked in the top 10 in less than 5 years.
Unfortunately, Roastbeef and other OU fans cannot look at the situation objectively because they are nothing more than small-minded sheep.
Sooner born and sooner bred, right chumps?
