Traditionalists may object, but the Tulsa Talons are wearing new duds.

"We're moving into the new arena, and we wanted to try something that went along with that," head coach Mitch Allner said.

The Talons play their first game in the BOK Center on Saturday, hosting the Kentucky Horsemen to kick off the 2009 af2 season.

Red and blue are still in the color scheme, but only as accent colors. Following a modern trend, the uniforms are mostly black helmets with the traditional Talons sticker on the sides, black jerseys and pants at home and white jerseys and black pants on the road.

Both uniforms have blue sleeves.

Longtime Tulsa fans may remember the Oklahoma Outlaws wearing similar all-black uniforms during their lone USFL season in 1984.

With minor alterations, the Talons have had the same uniform design — silver helmets with blue or alternate red home jerseys and grey road jerseys — throughout their first nine seasons.

"I like the new look. It goes good with the new arena," lineman Rod Green said.

The new artificial surface has black end zones, with the "Tulsa Talons" logo written across them in red and blue.

"When you look good as a player, you play good," lineman Anthony Bolden said.

I don't like it. They're just following a trend. Black is no longer a "cool" color.

I like the new uniforms more than the old ones.

I hate it when teams adopt black as a color when it isn't one of their regular colors. I say teams should stay true to themselves. Talons have been blue, silver, and red since their inception. Leave it that way!

I will boycott the Talon's games until they return to their true colors.

Terrible, black and blue (unless it's a light blue) are not compatible. Why are the sleeves so short and black pants, blahhhh!

We are season ticket holders and I think the old uniforms were just fine. Instead of worrying baout the latest "wave" of uniforms they need to market themselves a little better to Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Talons games are great fun and they need to get the word out and attract more fans. It's really pathetic the number of people who whine and complain there is nothing to do in Tulsa and they won't come out to an indoor sporting event. We are looking forward to another awesome Talon season.
