Big weekend for Felix Jones

On Friday, with more than 300 friends at the Petroleum Club in downtown Tulsa, Felix Jones celebrated his 22nd birthday. On Saturday, he hosted the inaugural Felix Jones Football and Life Skills Camp, which attracted a full complement of 75 young athletes.

On Saturday night, he hosted a fundraising gala at the Jazz Hall of Fame, with the proceeds benefiting the "Mentoring to the Max" program and his camp endeavor.

"I want to continue to do camps like this, both in Tulsa and in Dallas," Jones said. "I want to make the kids in my community happier and more vibrant. I want them to have a satisfying life."

Jones was a star at Booker T. Washington High School and Arkansas, and now seems on the verge of possible stardom in the National Football League. When this weekend has passed, he will resume preparation for his second season as a Dallas Cowboy running back.

So many tears fell the night Felix hurt his knee senior year, you would have thought S.E. Williams Stadium itself was crying. He was the man then, as he is now. I'm glad to see he is successful and is returning the favors afforded to him by Booker T. and Tulsa and am proud to call him a fellow Hornet.

Happy birthday Felix!
