Q&A with Cowboys RB Felix Jones

Many athletes lend their names to instructional camps for kids but don't always actually get involved in the proceedings.

During Saturday's Felix Jones Football and Life Skills Camp, Jones was very much involved. As 75 young players worked with their respective position groups, Jones — entering his second season as a Dallas Cowboy running back — roamed from station to station, sharing his expertise. Among the volunteer instructors was Phil Loadholt, the former Oklahoma offensive tackle who now is a Minnesota Vikings rookie.

While surveying the activity at Booker T. Washington High School's S.E. Williams Stadium, where he was an All-State performer, Jones discussed his future with the Cowboys. He was sensational during the first few weeks of the 2008 Dallas season, averaging 8.9 yards per rushing attempt and 27.1 yards on kickoff returns, but missed the final 10 games because of hamstring and toe injuries.

How difficult was it to watch 10 games from the sideline?

Very tough. We had been doing so good and winning a lot of ball games, and I was able to contribute early in the season. I was upset after I got hurt.

If you hadn't been injured, you might have been the NFL's offensive rookie of the year.

Yeah, but in this sport, injuries happen. It's part of the game. It's frustrating, but you just have to deal with it.

Your favorite memory of S.E. Williams Stadium?

My sophomore year, in my first varsity game, I returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown. We were playing against McLain, and I took it to the house.

Your former Arkansas coach, Houston Nutt, now is the head man at Ole Miss. To some extent, have you become an Ole Miss fan?

I'm a Razorback fan. I love the Razorbacks. I love only one school in the SEC, and that's Arkansas.

Are you determined to score the first touchdown in the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium?

That would be very nice, a big highlight for me. I'm always determined to get into the end zone, but to get that first one in the stadium, yeah, that would be great. I'll give it a try.

Troy Aikman says Terrell Owens' departure is a positive for Dallas. What does Felix Jones say about it?

I loved Terrell. He was my teammate. But I think my football camp here is a better subject to talk about.

Were you at Valley Ranch last week when a storm flattened the Cowboys' practice facility?

I wasn't there. It was such a sad situation. You can't control Mother Nature. I'm just glad that everyone got out of there alive.

You've been around Tony Romo for a full year. Can he take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl?

"Romo definitely is a Super Bowl quarterback. He's showing his leadership. I'm happy to be his teammate."

Felix Jones is a good person, it's great to see him giving back, and he is also a tremendous athlete and although I'm not a big D.Cboys fan I hope he goes ballistic and sets the world on fire at RB and returning kicks. Very exciting player and all Booker T. alums are proud of him!
