NFL Notebook: Cowboys CBs Jenkins, Newman miss practice

Although the Dallas Cowboys went through practice Saturday afternoon without Michael Jenkins and Terence Newman — two of their top three cornerbacks — coach Wade Phillips is hopeful both will be back soon.

There is a chance one or both will miss the preseason opener Thursday night in Oakland.

"We'll be very careful, obviously, but if they're ready to go we'll play them," Phillips said.

Newman was held out of both practices Saturday because of a slight groin strain.

Jenkins, who is battling Orlando Scandrick for a starting job, sprained his right ankle in the morning workout.

"It's not severe," Phillips said. "It's day-to-day, unless it changes tomorrow."

Scuffle causes injury: The New York Giants got a little feisty in their evening practice Saturday, and it may have cost them a player.

In an evening filled with scuffles, free agent offensive lineman Cliff Scott appeared to hurt his left knee when defensive tackle Dave Tollefson threw offensive tackle William Beatty into Scott's knee.

Coach Tom Coughlin immediately stopped practice and screamed at the team in the wake of the injury and the scuffles that preceded it.

Scott was taken off the field on a golf cart. The extent of his injury was not immediately available.

Parker sits out for Steelers: Running back Willie Parker sat out the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice with back spasms, although the team doesn't believe the problem is serious.

Roethlisberger accuser allegedly bragged about sex: The woman suing Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for alleged sexual assault has been accused of bragging about having consensual sex with him to a co-worker.

According to court documents filed late Friday, Angela Antonetti said the woman who made the rape claim "did not appear to be upset, stressed-out or nervous" about her time with him during a 2008 celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe.

Eagles rookie likely out for season: Philadelphia Eagles rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram has a torn ligament in his left knee and is likely out for the season. The team said an MRI taken Saturday revealed the torn ACL sustained on Tuesday. The fifth-round pick missed his senior season at Florida after tearing the ACL in the same knee.

Crabtree still unsigned: San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye says Michael Crabtree will have no choice but to play catch up in a hurry once he signs.

The holdout receiver and top Niners' draft pick missed his eighth day of training camp during his contract impasse.
