The Chiefs released the controversy-plagued Larry Johnson on Monday, the day he was due back from his second suspension in the past 12 months. On his Twitter account two weeks ago, Johnson had questioned coach Todd Haley's competence, insulted followers and used a gay slur. He repeated the gay slur the next day to reporters and was suspended for two weeks.

Bears' Harris apologizes: Defensive tackle Tommie Harris, who was ejected on the fourth play of Sunday's loss to Arizona, after throwing a punch at Cardinals offensive lineman Deuce Lutui. Harris apologized Monday to teammates, Bears fans and to Lutui.

Harris, a three-time Pro Bowl player, could be suspended by the league.

NFL looking into scuffle: DeAngelo Hall says he was only trying to help a teammate. Mike Smith says he was trying to restore order. If that's the case, how did the Washington Redskins cornerback and the Atlanta Falcons coach end up in the middle of such an untidy scrum?

The NFL is trying to answer that very question as it investigates the altercation that happened at the Georgia Dome on Sunday. It's anyone's guess what fines or suspensions will result from the sequence of events that found former Falcons player Hall on the wrong sideline.
