Around the NFL: More raving about Favre

WADE PAYNE / Associated Press

At one point during Minnesota's 36-10 rout of reeling Chicago, FOX play-by-play man Joe Buck discussed the media's "love fest" with middle-aged quarterback Brett Favre. Buck's point was that it's next to impossible not to talk about the Vikings' quarterback the way he's played this season.

It's a very good point, too. Favre continued to play like a 20s-something signal-caller against the Bears, completing 32 of 48 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns.

The former Packer and Jet also has the benefit of a plethora of weapons to utilize, including former Oklahoma star Adrian Peterson and his backup, Chester Taylor, in the backfield.

Favre also has been good enough to make the likes of Sidney Rice and Visanthe Shiancoe stars. And another star continued to emerge Sunday when Percy Harvin had 101 yards on six receptions.

"I think people are starting to look at our receivers like they do at Adrian Peterson as a force to be reckoned with," Favre said. "I figured we'd have to throw it some. I didn't come just to hand it off. I love to play."

Misery loves company in 2009

Three teams with a 1-15 record? It could happen. In fact, there's a good chance it will.

After Week 12, Tampa Bay, Cleveland and St. Louis still have only one win. And there may not be much hope for another win for the bunch.

The Buccaneers' final five games: at Carolina, vs. the Jets, at Seattle, at New Orleans and vs. Atlanta, a depleted team Tampa Bay should have beaten Sunday.

The Rams looked awful against a bad Seattle team Sunday. Their final five games: at Chicago, at Tennessee, vs. Houston, at Arizona and vs. San Francisco.

Cleveland may have the best shot of the trio, with four games at home. The Browns host the Chargers and Steelers, so cross those off the list. They also host Oakland and Jacksonville. The lone road game is a trip to 3-8 Kansas City.

Streaks and such

The Indianapolis Colts earned their 20th straight regular-season victory with a 35-27 win over Houston. Indianapolis (11-0) is one win shy of the New England Patriots' NFL-record 21-game run from 2006-08. The Colts can tie the record if they beat Tennessee at home next weekend. ... The Colts improved to 15-1 against Houston. ... Houston has lost three straight games. ... The Chargers have won six in a row. ... The Titans have won five in a row. They are the first team to win five straight after starting 0-6. ... The Bengals have won nine of the past 11 against the Browns. ... The Browns reached double-digit losses for the eighth time in their 11 years as an expansion team. ... The Redskins have lost nine straight road games. ... The Rams have lost 11 in a row at home and 10 in a row to the Seahawks. ... San Francisco has lost five of six since a 3-1 start.

Milestones

Brett Favre matched former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall for the NFL non-kicker record of 282 straight games played. ... LaDainian Tomlinson moved into 10th place on the NFL's career rushing list. He has 12,257 for his career. Up next is Marshall Faulk in ninth with 12,279 yards. ... Interim coach Perry Fewell earned his first career victory in Buffalo's 31-14 win over Miami. ... The Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew became a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time in his career. ... Donovan McNabb set an Eagles record for quarterbacks by playing in his 143rd game.

What they're writing

  • The Akron Beacon Journal's Patrick McManamon on the bumbling Browns and Brady Quinn:

"We know a lot about the Cleveland Browns this season. Primarily that they're not very good. But we don't know any more about Brady Quinn today than we did back in August. Which also is not very good.

"We know that he can light it up against Detroit. We know that he can catch a pass (he did just that in Sunday's loss to the Bengals). And we know that he can run a quarterback draw. Other than that, we don't know too much.

"Because as the Browns stagger blindly to the finishing stretch of December games — sure is good to have most of them at home, eh? — they are posing the classic chicken or egg question. Does Quinn struggle because he's not that good, or does he struggle because the team and approach drag him down?"

  • The Philadelphia Inquirer's Phil Sheridan on the Eagles' escape against Washington:

All the Eagles were able to secure early Sunday was mystified exasperation from fans who filled the Linc on a gorgeous late-November afternoon. Coach Andy Reid gave dead-in-the-water Washington buoyancy with an onside kick to open the game. It was the kind of bold move coaches use when they're desperate and, well, maybe Reid is at this point."

What they're saying

  • "That's a good team over there, but we're the Colts. We do things the right way and we try to get every win we can get." — Colts linebacker Clint Session after Sunday's 35-27 win over the Houston Texans.

  • "We've had some finishes around here, but I can't remember one like that. Just a tremendous finish." — Titans coach Jeff Fisher after quarterback Vince Young threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt as time expired, capping an 18-play, 99-yard drive, and leading Tennessee to a 20-17 win over Arizona.

THE GOOD

FOREVER YOUNG: The way things went for Vince Young the past few years, nobody could have seen this coming. Young rallied the Titans to a 20-17 win over the Cardinals, throwing for 387 yards and the winning touchdown pass to Kenny Britt on the last play of the game.

THE BAD

ANOTHER JAY DAY: Think Chicago wishes it had those draft picks back? The Bears' quarterback of the future had another rough day, throwing two more interceptions in a 36-10 beating at the hands of Minnesota. Jay Cutler has thrown for 16 TDs this season, but also has 20 picks.

THE UGLY

BROWNOUT: Chad Ochocinco , being tackled above, didn't see many passes his way Sunday against lowly Cleveland. And nobody in the stadium saw many completions. Cincy's Carson Palmer and the Browns' Brady Quinn combined for just 210 yards passing in a 16-7 Bengals win.

Quarterback stars

David Garrard, Jaguars: Garrard was 25 of 36 for 307 yards and a touchdown. Much of that came as Jacksonville was attempting to rally in a 20-3 loss to San Francisco.

Matt Schaub, Texans: Schaub completed 31 of 42 for 284 yards and two touchdowns in Houston's 35-27 loss to Indianapolis.

Running backs

Ricky Williams, Dolphins: Williams continues to shine in Ronnie Brown's absence, as he rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown in Miami's 31-14 loss to Buffalo.

Jamaal Charles, Chiefs: Johnson's replacement had 14 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City's 43-14 loss to San Diego.

Receivers and tight ends

Kenny Britt, Titans: Britt had seven catches for 128 yards and the go-ahead touchdown as time expired in Tennessee's 20-17 victory over Arizona.

Terrell Owens, Bills: Owens had five receptions for 96 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown, in Buffalo's win over Miami.

Defense and special teams

Darrelle Revis, Jets: Revis had two interceptions off Jake Delhomme, including a 67-yard touchdown return, in New York's 17-6 win over the Panthers.

Josh Wilson, Seahawks: Wilson returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown in Seattle's 27-17 win over St. Louis.

HOUSTON: NO PROBLEM

The Colts continue to give their fans plenty to cheer about, as they rallied from a 17-0 deficit against the error-prone Houston Texans to improve to 11-0. Indianapolis scored 28 straight points in the second half and won 35-27.

I think in all, Vince Young should get the most impressive. He has turned his team around. Great job Vince!
