Regular-season playoff history: This will be the third time in Tulsa's Texas League history that a one-game playoff has decided a postseason berth. In both instances, the game was added at the end of the regular season and there was no half-season format. In 1955, Houston defeated Tulsa 2-1 to claim the fourth and final playoff spot. In 1965, Larry Jaster pitched a shutout to lead Tulsa over Dallas-Fort Worth 2-0 for the East Division title.

This counts twice: Friday's game will decide the first-half title and it also will count in the second-half standings. The TL adopted a new tiebreaker system this year where the first meeting of the second half between the two teams tied for the lead in the first half would serve as the tiebreaker. If the previous tiebreaker was in effect, Springfield would have been the champion due to its lead in the season series over Tulsa.
