CATOOSA — Plenty of people at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino were waiting to say hello to Lou Brock when he arrived Monday night, but the St. Louis Cardinal legend made a point to send his first greetings of the night to Seth Marrujo, a second baseman for the 10-and-under Oklahoma Bearcats.

Brock joined fellow Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Goose Gossage at the 2009 Legends in Sports dinner, a fundraiser for the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges and the North Tulsa Baseball League.

"Baseball still has the ability to lend itself to families and multiple generations," Brock said. "It seems that with other sports, you take a buddy to the game. With baseball, you take a member of your family."

Brock laughed after learning Marrujo was a Yankees fan and anxious to meet Gossage.

Brock was selected as an All-Star six times and was named as one of the top 100 players of the 20th century.

Fingers, who was named the MVP of the 1974 World Series, says that baseball has changed, but he believes the fundamental love for the game endures, despite its recent steroid scandals.

"As long as you have kids, you'll have baseball," Fingers said.

I would have attended that. Where were the promotions?
