CLAREMORE — Top-ranked Rogers State got a career-high 26-points from Eric Young and made clutch free throws down the stretch to defeat No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist 84-78 on Thursday night in the Claremore Expo Arena.

Rogers State (26-1), now winners of 13 straight, secured at least a share of the Sooner Athletic Conference championship.

OBU, who beat Rogers State on Jan. 10, entered the contest with the nation's longest winning streak at 21 games.

The Hillcats' win secures the top seed in next week's SAC Championship in Lubbock, Texas, and puts them in the driver's seat for the No. 1 seed at the NAIA National tournament in Kansas City, Mo., March 18-24.

The Hillcats, who led 37-34 at the half, went on an 11-0 run early in the second half, which increased their lead to 52-44 with just over 10 minutes to play.

OBU (26-3) cut the advantage to five points on two occasions but could never completely erase the RSU advantage.

Two free throws by Aldric Reynolds with 21 seconds to play made the score 84-78 and secured the win in front of a standing-room-only crowd in excess of 2,200, the largest in school history.

Young led RSU with 26 points followed by Sylvester Spicer with 15 while senior Roderick Rodgers chipped in 11. Nate Brumfield scored a game-high 29 points for OBU while Brent Jones added 24.

Rogers State, now 14-0 at home, hit 47 percent from the field and 71 percent from the line on 21-of-31 attempts.

"I've never been more proud of a group of kids and the total effort they gave," said RSU coach Lloyd Williams. "It was their best of the year and was a product of tough team defense and patience on the offensive end of the floor. I didn't coach either of those tonight as our kids just wanted it, kept their composure and gave all they had. A great victory over an excellent OBU team."

Rogers State closes the regular season at 8 p.m. Saturday against St. Gregory's in Shawnee.

Thank you for covering RSU Athletics. The team played extremely well, deserving of their #1 ranking. Go Cats!
