Union-Jenks night: Jenks will visit Union in a pair of rivalry soccer matches on Thursday night.

The girls' match will pit Union (ranked sixth nationally) against a strong Jenks program. The Redskins have won the past two state titles, while Jenks won the gold ball in 2006.

The Union boys have won two of the past four state championships, and are ranked eighth in the nation. They just beat three top 50 teams to capture the Southern Soccer Challenge in Huntsville, Ala., last weekend.

The girls match is at 6 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. boys contest.

International man: Booker T. Washington goalkeeper Preston Langholz, fresh off a playing stint in Argentina with the U18 U.S. National Pool, led the Hornets to two big victories.

Langholz stopped three shots in a shootout win over East Central, and saved two shots in a shootout victory over Jenks. Washington's win over Jenks was its first in 10 seasons.

The Hornets are Class 5A's defending state champions and are currently top-ranked.

Another match to watch: The Edison girls will play at Booker T. Washington on Friday night. The match decided the 5A-4 winner last year, which is important because it means potentially not facing 10-time state champion Bishop Kelley until the state tournament's final match.

On the rise: Westville is ranked No. 8 in Class 4A's boys' rankings. It's the highest mark for the six-year program.

Boys stars: Catoosa sophomore Adam Schmoker has four goals and an assist last week ... Senior Kyle Langley had three goals and three assists in wins last week for Westville ... Claremore's Dylan Weaver has five goals against Edison, while Zebras goalkeeper Marcus Trahan has shutouts in four of seven matches.

On the girls side: Verdigris' Mallary Schaub missed last year with a knee injury. Last week, she had four goals in a win versus Porter and has been important in the team's 6-0-1 start ... Metro Christian's Allison Tipton, a four-year starter, has led the No. 3 Patriots to a 2-0 start.
