Booker T. Washington kept its hopes of a repeat Class 5A boys soccer state championship alive by defeating rival Rogers 3-1 at S.E. Williams Stadium on Friday night.

"We knew going in that it was going to be a tough game," said Booker T. Washington coach Mickey Miller. "Rogers scored the only goal on us in the playoffs last year and were one of our toughest games this season."

Nathan Doll, who signed his letter of intent to play soccer with Oklahoma City University, got the Hornets on the scoreboard early when he stole a pass from the Rogers defense and angled his dribble to the corner of the penalty area before driving his shot into the lower corner of the net.

"One of our keys to the game was to score early and get them on their heels," said Miller.

Doll added an assist early in the second half by playing a ball from midfield into the box. Jahkil James got to the ball, controlled it, and drilled a shot into the back of the net to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.

"Nathan does it all for our team," Miller said. "He's like having a coach on the field and he's been that way since he was a freshman."

Doll shifted to sweeper after Booker T. Washington took the lead and helped keep Rogers from getting many scoring opportunities. Hornets goalkeeper Preston Langholz was only forced to make only one save off a Rogers shot.

Rogers fought back and earned a penalty kick which was calmly converted by Chris Orduna.

Justin Harris scored on an assist by Tom Carwile to answer back just a few minutes later and put the game at the final score of 3-1.

The Hornets seemed to wear down Rogers late in the second half and appeared to be a threat to score on multiple occasions.

Booker T. Washington will host Oklahoma City Northwest Classen at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Booker T. Washington 4, Bixby 1 (girls): A late flurry of goals led Booker T. Washington to a 4-1 girls victory over Bixby in the 5A quarterfinals.

Booker T. Washington freshman Caroline Bennett scored her 10th goal of the season in the first half. Bixby's Megan Marchesano countered with a goal later in the half to tie the score going into halftime.

Booker T. Washington (12-2) struggled to score until 12 minutes remained when Kayla Nsien scored on an unassisted goal. She would score again and Hayley Keown added another.

The Hornets will host Carl Albert at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.
