Tennis team earns national berth: A local United States Tennis Association team won the Missouri Valley section championship last weekend in Oklahoma.

The 2.5 team based in Tulsa and captained by Brenda Rubin swept all three of its matches in Oklahoma City to advance to the 2.5 women's USTA League National Championships, that will be held Oct. 9-11 in Indian Wells, Calif.

In the finals, the Tulsa team downed Iowa 3-0.

Running

Saturday: Doubleshot 5k Trail Run and Duathlon at Osage Hills State Park in Bartlesville. Register online or pick up an entry form at DoubleShot Coffee Co., 18th Street and Boston Avenue in Tulsa. Entry fee for 5k is $25, $30 if registering on race day; entry fee for duathlon is $45 for individuals or $55 on race day. Two-person duathlon team entry fee is $60 or $70 on race day. Packet pickup at the race begins 6:30 a.m. on race day. USA Triathlon rules will followed and enforced for duathlon. Race will be held rain or shine. Run course will be on dirt single track. Monday: Run to the SON! 1-mile fun run/walk and 5k run at Parkview Baptist Church in Tulsa. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m., fun run/walk begins at 7:15 a.m. and 5k starts at 7:45 a.m. Information: 492-4545.
