Representing the Missouri Valley section, a 2.5 women's tennis team from Tulsa captured the national title at the USTA League Adult National Championships last weekend at Indian Wells, Calif.

The team defeated a squad from Ponce, Puerto Rico, 2-1 in the championship match Sunday. Earlier in the day, the Tulsa team defeated one from Tyler, Texas, 2-1 in the semifinals. They advanced to the semis by winning a round-robin flight Friday and Saturday.

The team is co-captained by Brenda Rubin and Tonia Parsons, and features Tami Abels, April Bonnett and Debbie Osborn. It plays at LaFortune Park Tennis Center.

Boston bound: The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will send two high school teams to Boston to compete in Sunday's Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest rowing event in the country.

The Girls Youth Four and the Boys Youth Four crews, made up of athletes from Tulsa-area high schools, will compete over a 5-kilometer course that starts in downtown Boston on the Charles River. The annual race features 1,300 crews and is attended by 250,000 spectators.

The boys' team competed earlier this month in the Boot of the Oklahoma Regatta in Oklahoma City and won the silver medal in its event, missing out on the gold by 0.7 second.

Members of the girls team are Anna Royce, Molly Schael, Courtaney Miller, Andrea Joyce, Molly McSweeney, Abby Jones and coach James Simmons. Members of the boys team are Andrew Smith, Eric Klammer, Brock Turner, Logan Gilstrap, Ryan Carroll, John Carmichael and coach Neil Bergenroth.
