Allmendinger takes breathalyzer: Sprint Cup driver A.J. Allmendinger found himself under intense scrutiny Friday after an arrest this week for driving while impaired.

Although NASCAR and his Richard Petty Motorsports team are allowing him to drive this weekend at Talladega, NASCAR forced Allmendinger to take and pass a breath test before he could participate in Friday's practices. Allmendinger also was assessed a $10,000 fine by his team and placed on team probation through the end of next season. On Thursday, NASCAR put Allmendinger on probation through the season.

Allmendinger, who drives the No. 44 Dodge, faces a Dec. 18 court date for one misdemeanor count of DWI. Police stopped the 2007 Lexus he was driving about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Mooresville.

According to the police report, Allmendinger had a blood alcohol content level of .08 percent, which is the minimum to be arrested for DWI in North Carolina.

Viking Classic postponed: PGA Tour officials have postponed the Viking Classic in Madison, Miss., due to heavy rain, until at least Sunday. Possibilities include postponing the full event until next week or weekend, shortening it to 36 holes and starting it midweek, or outright cancellation.

It's an important event for several players, including former Oklahoma State golfer Rickie Fowler, fighting to get inside the top 125 on the money list and keep his exempt status for next year. Slugger White, the PGA Tour's vice president for rules and competition, said Fowler would be able to use his top 10 finish to get into Disney, the final Fall Series event, if the Viking Classic were canceled or rescheduled.

Soccer

NSU women blanked: West Texas A&M scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 Lone Star Conference women's soccer victory over Northeastern State in Tahlequah. NSU falls to 5-10 overall and 1-7-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

UCO women win thriller: Katelyn Cropp scored on a close-range goal with 1:17 remaining in the second overtime to lift Central Oklahoma to a 1-0 Lone Star Conference victory over Texas A&M-Commerce.

Miscellaneous

OU, OSU athletes to be honored: Oklahoma State soccer player Bridget Miller and University of Oklahoma volleyball player Bridget Laplante have been honored as Fall 2009 Chick-fil-A Community of Champions recipients, the Big 12 Conference said Friday.

The awards are based on academics, community service and leadership/sportsmanship.

Miller is a senior midfielder and serves as one of OSU's team captains this season. She has started every game for the Cowgirls and has two goals and two assists. Laplante, a team captain, is averaging 1.76 kills and 3.44 digs per set in her senior season.
