OU's Eldridge has broken finger; will play
OU's Brody Eldridge works out at center during practice in August. JERRY LAIZURE/For the Tulsa World

NORMAN — Brody Eldridge, the most effective member of Oklahoma’s lackluster offensive line Saturday, has a broken bone in his finger, coach Bob Stoops confirmed Wednesday after practice. Eldridge did participate in Wednesday's practice and is expected to play Saturday against Idaho State.
Earlier this week, OU coaches said Eldridge was working more at tight end, his position the past three years, than at center, where he started in the Sooners’ 14-13 loss to BYU.
“I think Brody had the best grade of the linemen. He had 20 knockdowns,” offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Tuesday. “But I felt we missed an edge with Jermaine being out.”
Jermaine Gresham missed the BYU game with a knee injury that will keep him sidelined the entire 2009 season. Replacement tight ends Trent Ratterree and James Hanna struggled in Gresham’s absence.
“I’d kind of like to have Brody on the edge,” Wilson said, “but there’s going to be situations where I think he’s going to need to play inside. So it’s a little bit of a committee deal.”
Ben Habern, coming off a back injury sustained during summer workouts, will start at center against Idaho State if Eldridge does not.
“He played well the other night,” Wilson reported. “He didn’t get a lot snaps. He still has some irritation with his back, so that’s a temperamental situation....
“We’re kind of putting our fingers in the dam there, kind of plugging the holes up. We’ll see how it goes.”
It was not immediately known how or when Eldridge was injured.

get to the CHOPPA!
, Broken Arrow (9/9/2009 4:14:54 PM)
After reading several of the other stories about OU's season so far, there are some fans that need to RELAX. Yes, things are looking bad right now, but Stoops will take the team to where they need to go. They have dealt with this in the past. Under Stoops they have one countless big 12 titles and they always end up in the big game at the end of the season. Sure, we have been losing BCS games but at least we get there. I would rather lose to the champs then play in the "Nobody watches" bowl. So to all you cats calling for the firing of Stoops, careful what you wish for because if the Cleveland Browns come calling......

Haha, I wonder who used that wording?
"Well, sir, your hand appears to be slightly... um... broken."

Doubt NFL teams will be calling soon. That was 7 or 8 years ago when everyone would sit on pins and needles wondering if Stoops would take an offer. Sounds like there is plenty left to do in Norman.

Time to "SOONER UP".
(Bobdog wore a white helmet with a red stripe down the middle when he was a puppy and played in the neighborhood football games.)
