Texas' Mack Brown today: Longhorns will be excited to play OSU

Texas coach Mack Brown says the number of Texas natives playing for Oklahoma State may be a cause for the recent close games between the teams.

"They get really excited about this game, and in some cases our kids haven't matched their enthusiasm," Brown said in Monday's Big 12 teleconference. "So they're so good right now and (OSU coach) Mike Gundy's done such a great job, I think our kids will be as excited as Oklahoma State this weekend for this game."

There are 52 players from Texas on the Cowboys' roster this year. While OSU has beaten the Longhorns only twice (1944 and 1997), the last two games in the series have been decided by a total of seven points.

Saturday's game, set for 7 p.m. on KTUL channel 8, reminds Brown of last season's top-ranked Longhorns losing 39-33 at Texas Tech.

"I think everything's similar ... when you're looking at it," he said. "Number one, it's a very good team. Number two, it's national TV. Number three, it's 7 o'clock at night. It will be an excited crowd. It will be a sellout. It will be a game they've been looking forward to all year.

"We're really lucky that we have this window of opportunity to recapture something we lost last year, and the guys are excited about the trip. They're excited about Oklahoma State, but they're also excited about trying to recapture something that didn't work well last year. History doesn't repeat itself and give you these opportunities very often."

Brown said he has been impressed with how the Cowboys have played without running back Kendall Hunter (ankle-foot injury) and wide receiver Dez Bryant (NCAA suspension).

"What they've done, instead of talking about what they don't have, they've moved forward and produced with what is available on their team," Brown said. "So you give them credit for developing depth in their program and credit for moving on and not trying to use any of those as excuses."

I'm looking forward to watching this game. It will answer a lot of questions. For example,
Is OSU really that good, or are they overrated?
Was the Houston game just a fluke?
Is Texas worthy of their ranking?
I can't stand OSU, and I will be rooting for Texas this weekend. But Texas had better be careful, because I think OSU really is pretty good, and if the Horns can beat the Boys this weekend, they will have a clear shot at the National Championship, since numbers 1 and 2 will play one another in the SEC Championship game.

Pretty sad that it's not assumed that a team respects you. "yeah, yeah, we're excited to play them. I mean, normally we're not, but this year, yeah. I mean, we're gonna show up and everything." - Mack "Butter Teeth" Brown

I'm taking my kids around for trick-or-treating a little early this year so that I can be back in time to watch the game! If you go to the game, remember to take candy when you tailgate Saturday for the kiddos!

This is the only chance I get to see my Horns in person every other year in Stillwater..There have been some great games..How OSU lost the last one in 2007(35-14 in 4th quarter and lost 36-35)) I still can't figure out..The OSU fans were in complete shock..So was I .....I think this is gonna be a great game win or lose....Hook 'Em Horns....

Thanks Roastbeef.

Out in the middle, you can stay there for all I care. I hope you do root for Texas and my Pokes win. It will make it that much sweeter.

LMAO, I completely agree. The game and atmosphere will be incredible. I'm extremely excited. Of course, I'm hoping for a different team to win than you though. Go Pokes!!!

It's obvious that much of the national media are not giving OSU much of a chance in this one. Right after pasting Baylor, one of the Versus studio chumps said that OSU doesn't really have a "chance" of beating Texas.

Later that night, on ESPN's gameday wrapup, Brent Musberger's take on Texas' next game with OSU was that it would be a "bit of a trap game for Texas". Not much respect for OSU right now.

How sweet would it be for OSU to win? And not only that, but even, perhaps, to win big. It's possible, folks. Texas has looked pretty mediocre at times lately, while OSU has started to really turn it on, especially on defense.

Does anyone really put any stock into what Musberger(aka, the worst announcer in college football) has to say? He is a clown only buffeted by a knowledgeable analyst like Herbstreit...It should be a violent and close game...I'm thinking much like this years Red River Rivalry was.....Hook 'Em Horns....
