You decide: Who should be Tulsa's starting quarterback?

Todd Graham will stick with G.J. Kinne as his starting quarterback in Saturday's game against nationally ranked Houston.

The decision has upset some fans, who think Jacob Bower should start after he took over for Kinne in the second quarter of a 27-13 loss to SMU.

There's different ways to look at this situation.

Kinne has eight games of experience, much more than Bower. But Tulsa is 4-4 during Kinne's starts, and in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

Bower made plays immediately when he entered the game. But his inexperience showed at times and he led TU to only one other scoring drive after guiding the team to a touchdown on his first series.

Don't forget about Shavodrick Beaver. Is this athletically gifted freshman ready to make the next step and deserve more playing time? Or should he have redshirted this season to absorb the playbook?

Will TU be bowl eligible this season?

A few thoughts after TU's loss Saturday against SMU:

1) The team look uninspired, and in the postgame press conference quarterback Jacob Bower said he felt a lack of focus in the locker room before the game. He said the team was the flattest he's seen it, and the pregame atmosphere was nothing like the buzz before Boise State.

2) With TU trailing
20-13, the Hurricane faced fourth-and-19 with a little less than six minutes left. The ball was near midfield. Instead of punting it, pinning SMU deep and then trying to get the ball back, TU went for it on fourth down. G.J. Kinne's pass was batted backward by an SMU lineman. Todd Graham suggested the play would have worked if the ball hadn't been swatted but also said it was a bad call. I agree. Why would coaches think an offense that's struggled all day would get 19 yards? SMU took the ensuing possession and marched on a half field to the clinching score.

I don't think that play determined the game, though. Too many other problems in that game to single out one play.

3) Not sure what others think, but I think TU's bowl chances are 50-50. Maybe home wins over East Carolina and Memphis to get to 6-6.Read more online at

TU will probably lose all but the Memphis game, which might be a toss-up by then. The team not only has not improved, but actually has retrogressed. Meanwhile opponents have performed the natural improvement that occurs during the season. There will be echos bouncing from East to West at Skelly Field.

I may be all wet; but do we have some one that can run a offence?
WE HAVE 3 defenceive coordinators(Randolph, patterson, and west)along with graham.Coach Hand is a defence turned offence. The only one that I can see that has been there is Blankenship but he is an " out sider" meaning he did not come from West virginia.
Coach Norvell is inside recivers coach but I haven't seen a pass inside all year.
